Positive: Location was fab, places to eat very close, nice areas to walk the dog, not far to drive to neighbouring villages (we liked Knaresborough, Otley isn’t far either, and York/ park and ride are 20-25 mins away. Some of the food places / pubs are amazing in particular the Thai food at The Black Bull. The Tap on the Tutt is also nice and is dog friendly, as are most of the shops. The weather unfortunately restricted our plans as we had storm darragh so couldn’t meander as much as we like to. It was lovely and warm in the property with the heaters dotted around the place, and a heated towel rail. As it was December The Hideaway had a Christmas tree and some decorations which is a really nice touch and makes such a difffence! Georgina the host is the nicest host I’ve met and goes above and beyond, nothing is too much trouble and it is clear she loves hosting and takes pride in The Hideaway, the way it is decorated is cute and very homey, and she left little gifts for us during our stay (including the dog) as we brought her so she could enjoy the area with us.
Negative: Abit more cutlery and utensils would have been helpful as we cooked breakfast a few times :) and more than 2 toilet roll for 4 days but we found a spar down the road :) If you are planning to cook properly it might be tricky as it’s a small kitchen with 2 hobs only and a microwave. It suited what we had planned to do though :) A little drafty at the front door, maybe a draft excluder would help this :) only noticeable when sitting downstairs though as upstairs is toasty warm! Again not a major issue and didn’t impact us! If you have a dog it is abit awkward to let them out front if you’re not going out, or at night etc. The pavements are narrow (less space to roam to choose “the spot”) and it’s a busy street with traffic even at night surprisingly. Once you’re out and about no issues at all as plenty of bigger areas.

Positive: Wonderful host, Georgina, made us feel at ease immediately, a lovely surprise welcome pack, with lots of goodies.So peaceful, slept really well. Lovely shower, great TV, everything you needed was there and so simple to operate. We had the run of the little shop also. We felt very secure while there. Easy access to shops, pubs and restaurants, all within walking distance. We shall definitely be staying again.

Positive: We had a lovely 4 day break in Borougbridge, explored the local area for a couple of days and visited family. The property was described as quirky and bijou which it lived up to. The host made us welcome and provided Tea, Coffee, Milk and cream cakes on arrival, there was also a fruit bowl. It was a nice touch to give us a cyclamen gift to take away. There were lots of little heaters to keep the place warm & toasty. All I would say is that it would be difficult to cook a meal in the kitchen area as very basic, saying that there are some lovely pubs and coffee shops to visit - which we thoroughly enjoyed. We would definitely visit the Boroughbridge area again. North Yorkshire is a beautiful place.
Negative: The kitchen was very basic which was fine for us but not if you wanted to properly self cater. If I'm being really picky the shower could have done with a bit more pressure, but the water was lovely and hot.
Summary: Stay here if you want to stay in what I believe is a Grade II listed property.
