Area Amenities:
The Tenants Harbor General Store, is open daily, specializing in morning coffee and pastries, corn, blueberries, native lobsters, fresh-cut meats, firewood, and all grocery supplies. It is only a 10-minute walk, or bring your bike for riding the winding roads for the scenic ocean and island views. This is a pleasantly old and proud Maine community with its own library, school, and fire/rescue department. Knox County Sheriff's Office provides policing services. One-third of all Maine lobsters come from this county, named for General Henry Knox, George Washington's chief artillery officer in the Revolutionary War of 1776. You can learn about him on the peninsula, as well as enjoy programs offered all seasons at Montpelier, the Knox Mansion Museum, located just another few minutes in the nearby coastal town of Thomaston.
Heading another 10 minutes down the St. George peninsula is Port Clyde, another fishing village. You will enjoy beautiful ocean views while enjoying an incredible meal on the wharf and delicious ice cream for dessert from the local ice cream shop. In the heart of Port Clyde, you will find adventure waiting for you. Whether it's visiting a local art gallery, enjoying a day on the ocean with the Wyeth by Water Lobster Boat tours, or the Monhegan Island ferry adventures to see Maine seabirds, including puffins and American bald eagles, spending the day at the local Drift-Inn beach or a picnic at Marshall Point Lighthouse; St. George has something for everyone.
Here are some things you should know about visiting Maine:
Cell phones: Although coverage is getting better, there are some places where cell phones don't have good reception. Chances are you will have service, but just in case, make sure you leave the number of the house you are renting with those who may need to get in touch with you. Coverage with AT&T can be spotty in many areas of Maine.
Weather: If you have heard it once, you've heard it a hundred times: if you don't like the weather in New England, wait a minute. It can be hot in Rockland and cool in Port Clyde so make sure to pack a variety of clothes — from a bathing suit for hot days to a sweater for cool evenings. Check out the current local weather at www.weather.com.
Bugs: A lot of people ask us if we have mosquitoes...we sure do. But they aren't huge and they don't ruin a vacation. Bring some repellent, or pick some up at the local general stores and you will be fine; usually, you won't even notice them.
Dogs: We love dogs around here, but each town has its own rules about pets. Make sure to look for signs stating if dogs are allowed and always have them on a leash. If they leave behind anything, please pick it up, it's not a fun surprise when you are exploring the beautiful shoreline. You can also be fined for not picking up after your four-legged friend.
Unwanted animals: You probably have them too, but raccoons and skunks can make you regret last night's lobster dinner. No one wants to pick up old, smelly shells that have been cast out onto the lawn by these cute, but curious and disastrously messy, little guys. So please don't put off placing the trash in the secure trashcans provided.
Water: Moonlight Cottage is not on public water supply. It has a well, with a water filtration system, and is tested regularly once a year.
Moonlight Cottage is a Saturday to Saturday rental year-round! This home comfortably sleeps 4 people/ max 2 adults.

Summary: This was our first time to Maine and this cottage is in a stunning location in a very beautiful town! The yard around the cottage is very well taken care of! Our family enjoyed walking everyday to the Tenants Harbor General Store which had everything we needed/hoped for. The town was quiet and filled with life. We very much enjoyed watching the lobster boats in front of the cottage. Our children ages 10 & 11 and our golden retriever played on the rocks out front and had a blast everyday!! This vacation was a blessing to our family and the cottage was wonderful!! We hope to come back! Thank you for sharing!

Summary: We really enjoyed our week at the Moonlight Cottage the last week in May. Pros: It was wonderfully rustic with the pine walls, brick fireplace and deck. The kitchen was well-stocked with quality dishes, glasses, pans, and utensils. The heat and TV both worked great. The bed was VERY comfortable! Nice shower. And of course, beautiful views! A super location for day trips to Port Clyde, Friendship, Rockland, Camden and Belfast. We loved exploring the local harbors and lobster pounds everyday, and returning to the cottage each night. Victoria responded quickly to our request for fireplace help, sending a maintenance man over on the holiday to fix the flue. Just a few Cons: No binoculars. What??? An ocean view, birds, lobster boats, sailboats … but all a ways out with no way to see them up close. Very disappointing! The kitchen had no coffee, sugar, creamer, no oil or vinegar, no spices other than salt and pepper. A few more basics would be nice. Lastly, we found the home guide a bit heavy handed in tone, telling us to sweep the floors, start laundry, put washed dishes away … We always leave a place clean and tidy, but in our experience (and for the price) those are the cleaners’ jobs. Threats to charge 50 for each piece of furniture out of place were over the top. A kinder, gentler tone would be appreciated.Overall, Moonlight is a wonderful cottage with a classic Maine vibe. Great location, awesome deck, wonderful views, good gear, homey feel. We recommend!

Summary: This sweet cottage is located about 25 feet from high tide in Tenants Harbor, where you can watch the lobster boats heading out in the morning and coming back in the afternoon. Its location ensures privacy, with no houses on either side, on a quiet road not far from town. Veronika always responded to any questions quickly and was an excellent communicator. We loved our stay here and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Summary: Perfect location for a quiet getaway. Can’t get much closer to the water than this. Rocky beach area is just feet from the door and fun for beach combing for shells and rocks. Boats coming and going all day. The kitchen has everything you could want.

Summary: Sitting at the firepit outside, directly on the rocky beach and the Atlantic Ocean was magical ! We had a relaxing, enjoyable stay in this classic cottage. The location is unparalleled and the cottage immaculate. Our dog was in in heaven running on the rocks and beach all week. We look forward to our next stay at Moonlight Cottage!.

Summary: Cottage had top notch appliances, was clean and a short walk to the general store. View was wonderful. The problem was the ongoing bombardment of acorns hitting the roof, the porch and occasionally one of us. Because the cottage’s ceiling is an uninsulated roof, the impact of the falling acorns on the roof resembled exploding cherry bombs 24/7. There is also too much furniture and we lost count regarding the number of pillows everywhere. The cottage is too small for all the stuff in it. But we love Maine and are very appreciative that the owners shared their cottage. (We have too many squirrels in our yard at home. We would be happy to import some.)

Summary: We enjoyed sitting on the porch with a warm or cold beverage, reading and watching the boats enter and leave the harbor (bring your binoculars)! The cabin is a couples retreat and came with a well'stocked kitchen for cooking...although we enjoyed dining out and got our fill of the local seafood and baked goods, especially lobster, clams and haddock and everything made with Maine blueberries

Summary: Wow! What a quaint little piece of perfection. We enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It was well appointed, clean, and comfortable. The surrounding area was just what we wanted. We had the privacy desired, but close to restaurants, shopping, hiking, lighthouses, and boating. We look forward to a return visit.
