Welcome to “The Owl in Vesuvius” a sweet cottage only steps away from the warmest beach on Salt Spring Island. This family friendly furnished 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath home is located in the heart of Vesuvius village. With almost an acre of sunny gardens, an orchard, a berry patch, and a wildflower meadow... there's plenty of space to breathe!
Built in 1958 the home retains its cottage charm along with up to date conveniences.
The bright large open concept living/dining room has garden and some ocean views. A wood burning fireplace will keep you cozy on cooler nights while watching movies on the 60" flat screen TV. Dining table with seating for six for those fun family game nights or dinners. The adjoining sunroom doubles as a home office or a nice place to cuddle up with a book. A heat pump will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
The fully equipped kitchen is supplied with all utensils, pots, pans dishes etc needed to prepare family meals. Features include an induction stove top, wall oven, large fridge, and dishwasher. The laundry room has a front load washer and dryer for use during your stay.
There are two large bedrooms both overlooking the orchard and wildflower meadow. The primary bedroom has a king sized bed, small sunroom and lots of built in storage. The second bedroom has both a queen and a twin bed, dresser and nice corner window.
There is a 4 piece main bathroom with combination tub/shower, single vanity & toilet along with a 2 piece powder room off the entry hall.

Summary: What a beautiful home and was very welcoming and clean when we arrived. Lorraine messaged us to ensure we had everything we needed and replied promptly when we had a quick question about the home. The home has all the necessities for a stay and was very comfortable for us, our daughter and small dog! Our dog loved the huge yard to run around on. Would highly recommend this place

Summary: My family spent four nights here at the Owl and couldn’t be more impressed! The pictures don’t do it justice. Very clean and spacious. The kitchen is well stocked and beds are very comfortable. It is a very large fenced outdoor space which our labradoodle appreciated! Great place - we will be back!

Summary: We fell in love with this comfortable house immediately. It is large and isn’t crammed with overstuffed furniture. The decor in this house, which was built in 1958, is mid-century minimalistic. There are a lot of windows to help bring the outside in. You’ll catch a glimmer from Vesuvius Bay out of one of the dining area windows that also is reflected in the circular mirror over the fireplace. The cork floors in the living area and bedrooms were new to us and we liked them. The house had been immaculately cleaned. We visited Owl Cottage in early autumn and only needed to turn on the baseboard heater in the main bedroom at night. There are baseboard heaters as well as units controlled by remote control in the kitchen and main room, but we didn’t use them. There are sunrooms off the main bedroom and the living area. We used the latter to quickly dry laundry on the rack that’s provided. We also found opening the sunrooms’ doors late in the afternoon would help warm the house for the evening. Going out into the sunroom to read during cool mornings helped warm us. The kitchen is well equipped. Both tea and coffee lovers are catered to with large mugs, tea bags, and a teapot as well as coffee beans placed next to a grinder and coffee maker. With the exception of the microwave and oven, the appliances in the kitchen and laundry room are new. The combo shower/bathtub was stocked with Salt Spring Soapworks liquid soap, shampoo, and conditioner. (Bottles were purchased at the shop in Ganges and came home with us.) Motion-activated nightlights in both bathrooms make late-night navigation safe. WiFi access was running about 60 Mbps during our visit. The television is set up with a Netflix account and Owl Cottage guests can use it. The back yard appears to be a work in progress. The pear and apple trees were fruiting. The one-acre lot is surrounded by a fence. The main gate leading off Vesuvius Bay Road always is kept closed to keep the deer out of the garden. There is a second gate in the side yard that opens onto less-traveled Langley Road. We found it was less stressful for one of us to be the gatekeeper while the other drove our car around the block and up Langley. One of the many advantages of this rental is Lorraine, the property manager, who is focused on guest comfort and amenities. Both a small chalkboard welcoming us and a house book with answers to our questions were waiting for us. We could tell the difference Lorraine makes.

Summary: We stayed at this property for 3 nights (wish it was longer!) a couple weeks ago. There were four adults and our two dogs. The fenced in property is gorgeous (and quite large), private with beautiful sunset and water views! The location was great - a short walk to a beautiful beach cove area where you could swim, walk, watch the sunset, etc. It was the perfect location from which to explore the Island! As for the house itself, it was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed! It was spacious and we enjoyed using the deck to relax after a day out. Lorraine was very responsive in communicating and we can’t think how anything could have been better! Highly recommended!

Summary: The Owl in Vesuvius was exactly what we were hoping for. Very comfortable, quiet, clean, cozy and private, with all the amenities we needed and more. A lovely balcony (with a partial ocean view) for outdoor dining or sunbathing and a spacious garden with an exceptionally beautiful Arbutus tree in one corner. The location was great… we loved being able to begin the day with a short stroll to the beach before breakfast, and we found it to be a quick and easy drive to Ganges for groceries (and the Saturday market). We stayed here for three nights, spent the days exploring and hiking in Ruckle and Mt Maxwell Provincial Parks and loved returning to this peaceful house in the late afternoons. It was just right for our small family reunion. We booked last minute and communications with the host (Lorraine) could not have been faster or better. We would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants to unwind and enjoy the island life for a few days.

Summary: Our stay was just what we needed for a relaxing family getaway. The house is perfect for families with kids and pets and has a high chair available which was a bonus for our 16 month old. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach and the fenced yard so we could play outside with our daughter and dog. The kitchen was well equipped with everything to make a family meal including some kids dishes.

Summary: The house was immaculate. It was tastefully decorated, very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The close proximity to the beach and the ferry were a plus, as were the delicious plums in the garden! In short, it was a perfect getaway for our family and we will be back for sure.

Summary: We enjoyed our vacation at Owl cottage and hope to come back often. My 2 young children loved it and want to come back. It’s a short walk to the beach. We had some mobility issues and were able to make it. It’s a good beach for children and my youngest swam in the bay. The house is clutter free and the kitchen is stocked with lots of kitchen things including kids stuff. The garden is huge and fenced and wonderful for the kids to run around in. The television was perfectly placed and had Netflix and prime and other options. It had air conditioning which we used occasionally to cool down. It was very relaxing and now will be our holiday home away from home

Summary: What an amazing property. My family stayed there in August 2022. The photos were very accurate, but we didn’t expect the property to be as outstanding as it was. The property has plum and apple trees throughout as well as blackberry bushes. All were in season when we were there and my girls got a real kick out of eating fresh plums off a tree! At night, we laid out on the outdoor sofa and picked out the constellations from the sky above. During the day, Salt Spring’s best beach was only steps away. We were in touch with the property manager Lorraine a few times before and during our stay and she is fantastic! Quick to answer and very accommodating. It was very hot during our stay, so having air conditioning was a real treat, and a rarity on the west coast. Can’t wait to return. One of our favourite and most memorable family vacations to date.
