Positive: Location, garaging for car, peace and quiet, wood burner with lots of firewood, fresh and clean linen and towels.
Negative: Two small niggles: Oven pan was filthy - had to spray with oven cleaner (twice) and let it sit for overnight to get it clean (sort of). No bug spray - lots of lady bugs, small cockroaches and so on. I know they always get in but a can bug spray would have solved that - bought one next day and all sorted.
Summary: Wonderful stay, peaceful and quiet, would definitely want to stay here again in future.

Positive: The Red Rooster Cottage was great for accommodating 6 people during New Year's for our trip to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It has 3 bedrooms with 2 double beds and a bunk bed. It came with everything we needed for a good stay. The kitchen was well-equipped for preparing meals. Very private location in rural nature with almost no neighbours. It has added foliage in front of the cottage for extra privacy despite being close to the road. Only 5 mins away from the National Park town by car that has a gas station/ four square. And, 26 mins from the Tongariro National Park. You can head 26 mins up to get to Taumaranui Town which has a McDonald's, New World, Restaurants and more. Loved the theme of the 'Red Rooster Cottage' as most things were rooster-orientated and very old school making for a cozy, lived-in aesthetic.
Negative: As much as the old-school style adds to the beauty of the cottage it is still an old house so it has all the drawbacks of an old home of course. Creaky floor/ foundations, Chilly mornings, Condensation. Facilities are not modern. You're advised to boil water before drinking. Since it is rural as well, there were a lot of bugs during the Summer. Tho it has a fireplace for the Winter, it doesn't really have much in the way of cooling during the Summer. Would be nice to have a fan If you look past this, this really is an excellent place to stay.

Positive: Overall very good. Only suggestions for improvement are that the oven was fairly slow to heat and some of the crockery and cutlery wasn’t very clean.

Positive: We really like the place and it is set in a pleasant location where you aren't even aware of any neighbors so great privacy. There is heaps of space for a couple although one of the rooms with a double bed was pretty tight so a second couple might get a surprise. This is a place where you can really relax and forget the world. We decided we would be quite happy to go back as we like the location so much despite some misgivings mentioned below.
Negative: If you a a stickler for cleanliness this place might be a challenge to you. We had to vacuum the sofa as there was a lot of debris in the gaps which my partner discovered to her horror. We also had to clean cups before using them and a lot of the cupboards could do with a spring clean.
Summary: This is a place where you can really relax and forget the world.
