Summary: There were 8 adults who stayed at this house and the accommodations were perfect. The host made it know she was there if we needed her and was welcoming without being over bearing. We all enjoyed our stay!

Summary: An Amazing Place out in the Country! The Roost is extremely clean and well designed, fantastically decorated, and has every amenity you will need. Chock full of local information, guide books, movies etc. The location can't be beat as it is gorgeous and wildlife visited us quite often. It was great having the super friendly owners nearby if we needed them, but they provided us with as much privacy as we wanted. We enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and sunsets in this cozy area! Kris was so kind to come and open the store for us. This whole area is so friendly and welcoming! It was a great weekend with my sisters! Definitely would love to make a trip back to the area at some point!

Summary: We loved our stay here. The house was cute, clean and inviting, and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was also well-stocked, and the layout of the house with three kids was perfect as they each got their own rooms next to each other while my wife and I had the privacy of the large bedroom on the other side of the house. The location of the house is perfect if you want to get away from civilization for a bit while still being only 10 minutes away from Winterset, and the backyard views of the surrounding countryside were fabulous. Most of all, the host was spectacular. Not only was she a great communicator, but she was kind enough to put a dozen farm fresh eggs in the fridge for us on arrival, and she sent us a note during our stay warning us that inclement weather was coming. After checking out, we realized that we left a small but important item in the house, and she sent it to us in the mail free of charge (even though I wanted to pay her). Just a very kind person on top of being a great host. We would go back to Speckled Hen Farms in a heartbeat!

Summary: Kris is a super “super VRBO” host. She responded immediately to questions and requests…from us booking an extra day to our request of shopping the little store next door on off hours. It is a very quiet place and the landscape viewing is beautiful. Because we were there on a Friday evening we enjoyed the Friday night music next door. We did not attend the event as we were able to sit on the front porch and enjoy the music while sitting in our own comfortable chairs. We were also able to catch a glimpse of the fawn and it’s mother that hangs around the area. I would only suggest one thing to Kris….it’s a positive thing…she should post pics of the bedroom suite and bathroom as they are gorgeous, but not on the listing. MY FRIEND AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!!!!

Summary: Very peaceful quiet house located in the country. House was very clean, beds were comfortable, and plenty of cooking supplies. We all really enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this place.

Summary: A much needed get away for 3 young widows. We came to the area to ride the pedal powered Rail Explorer in Boone (about an hour away). We laughed, cried and left restored. This place is so special! Kris, you are a gem and so kind. Thank you for creating a place for people to rest and refresh. There were 2 full bathrooms. The beds had great sheets/bedding and the mattresses were comfortable. The home was clean and the kitchen had all we needed to do a little cooking. There were plenty of towels and extra blankets. The fire pit was da-bomb! There were many other little touches that made this place to a 10 out of 5. You can't go wrong renting this place.

Summary: Quiet, private, and beautiful scenery! The house was so cute! Close enough to Des Moines for shopping, but far enough away from the city that we had peace & quiet!
