Raurimu is a charming small settlement located in the Ruapehu District, renowned for its engineering marvel, the Raurimu Spiral. This remarkable railway spiral allows trains to ascend 139 meters through a series of sharp curves and looping back on itself. The town also boasts many historical buildings, offering an engaging and picturesque stroll through a neighbourhood rich in history and character.
There is ample parking available on the property. The quiet town of Raurimu is best explored on foot, allowing you to fully appreciate the intricate details of the historical buildings you pass.
Most of the town's roads are either tar-sealed or well-maintained gravel.

Summary: Stayed for just one night in this lovely, character-filled home to watch our daughter run the Tongariro Goat the next day (usually stay for two nights but unfortunately couldn't this time).What a great place! So much character, great open plan living area, plenty of sleeping space with comfy beds and a lovely setting. Definitely want to come back and enjoy the place more fully, including the hot tub!Sienna was fantastic to deal with.Many thanks .

Summary: We loved the warm family atmosphere and country cottage vibe including the green grass and big maple tree (and swing). Enjoyed the late summer light on the back verandah, and a wonderful roast dinner with the family after a beautiful walk at nearby Tongariro. Warm fireside chats late into the night and then up early the next day for a longer hike. Fantastic base for enjoying the delights of Tongariro National Park.

Summary: We really our stay at this very cosy cottage. Great fire place with plenty of wood to burn. Being so near to the Raurimu Spiral for train, National Park for supplies and rock climbing and Mt Rhapehu was excellent. Our party of 10 were most comfortable.

Summary: House was comfortable and had everything we needed for a quick break. Location is great. We had a lot of fun in the snow. We had two trains passing during the night. The only criticism would be that we would have loved to take a warm shower after returning from the snow, but the water took very long to heat up from the fire.

Summary: My friend and I were very comfortable in this house end of August during a very wet week. Was very clean and we were surprised how warm we kept in it. Great log fire. Very well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable beds. Great location for us, we walked, mountain biked, skied and dined out at local hotel restaurant. Short drive to well stocked four square for anything you’d need.
