Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: Convenience - close to Hassock Station where we could park free with blue badge and go for days in Brighton. Loads of power sockets
Negative: Feels slightly run down and dated. Little things like the shower being loose at the wall and the control dials not matching the description - off = power for example. No instructions for the hob - we worked out how to heat up 1 hob plate but then couldn't work out how to turn it off so had to switch it off at the main plug. Numerous cobwebs but perhaps the spiders work quickly after a clean through. Not that these things should detract from Tovey Lodge being a great little base (it is small) for a cost concious break in Brighton.
Summary: Base for exploring Brighton

Positive: The location was amazing, and to able to bring our dog was a bonus. Inside the property it was tidy and had everything you needed for a self catering stay. It was lovely and quiet and off the beaten track, which I personally love. There was plenty of hot water, and in the summer months the outside area I imagine would be a lovely area to entertain. The hosts were helpful when we spoke over the phone.
Negative: It was cold and smelled as if it had not been used in a while. I found the air conditioning heater not very affective and our first night we spent there was very cold indeed. There was a small electric heater we found in a cupboard, and that helped enormously. It was dark when we arrived, but when we went outside in the morning we saw there was dog mess in the garden and outside the properties fence. The fence was broken near the back gate, so wasn't dog proofed. The oven and hob was very old and you cannot read the settings, and the shelving in the oven was broken.
Summary: Perfectly located in the countryside, but aspects of the property needs some updating and TLC.

Positive: Loved the location, we could see up to the south downs from the cottage. Well placed for walks along Ditchling Beacon towards the windmills. Comfortable bed and cottage had everything we needed. Easy to get to Brighton and other places of interest as well. Great to have the air-conditioning units as well as weather was very hot and they helped keep the cottage pleasantly cool. We also found a separate freezer, washing machine and a second toilet that were accessed from the garden. These would have been useful if we were staying longer!
Negative: We liked everything; however some information on how/when rubbish was collected would have been useful as we weren't certain if there was separate rubbish and recycling collections.
Summary: Cosy, comfortable cottage, great stay.

Positive: For the money you can’t really grumble! Nice little outdoor area perfect for the dog or sitting out in nice weather. Lots of walks nearby.
Negative: The place really could do with a new oven/hob and there was a strong dog smell in the lodge (we’ve been to plenty of places with our dog and not had this experience before).
Summary: Nice for a short stay for the price

Positive: It was a quaint little cottage in a lovely area near Ditchling village and the Beacon. The cottage was well equipped, clean and comfy. We didn't see anything of our hosts, but telephone calls and messages showed that they did care about our comfort whilst staying in the property.
Negative: The cottage was very chilly when we arrived and did take till the next morning to begin to warm up properly. Of course this wouldn't be a problem in the warmer months. The cottage is a little bit tired now and clearly has been well used, but as a reasonably priced base for visiting a lovely part of the country, it is fine for a short break.
Summary: Pretty little cottage in a lovely location
