Casa Cattanach is one of 24 Villas within the 2 acre gated community of Villas Playa Blanca located on the Pacific Ocean of Mexico. Located an easy 10 minutes south from the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo airport on 14 km of Playa Blanca's unspoiled white sandy beach. The Villas are situated in a horseshoe shape around a very large infinity pool and the property spans a wide stretch of beachfront. Casa Cattanach (Villa 21) is in a prime location on the property, literally 50 steps from the beach and 15 steps from the pool. Each Villa comes with one parking stall right outside the Villa. The caretaker and his family live on site and the complex has 24 hour security.
The Villa has 2 bedrooms, available for use, each with unobstructed ocean views where you will fall asleep to the sound of the ocean waves every night. The bedrooms are both upstairs, have comfortable King Sized beds and full ensuite bathrooms with showers. The Master Bedroom (upstairs) also a palapa covered terrace. Located on the main floor is a fully appointed, newly renovated, spacious kitchen, all ready for cooking delicious Mexican meals, a dining area, a 3 piece bathroom and a very cozy living room with a wrap around couch. There is a television and DVD player in the living area. Wi-Fi is located throughout the main floor of the Villa. Also located on the main floor is a very large palapa covered terrace with a beautiful live edge parota wood dining table where you'll enjoy your meals, a hammock for afternoon siestas and a patio furniture set for more relaxing and socializing.
Take a stroll down the beach and enjoy one of the many beachfront restaurants. Being part of a fishing community, seafood is definitely their specialty, however you will find other options on the menu. A short walk down the road will bring you to Fanny's Tienda, a very well stocked store that provides almost all your grocery needs. And there is also a fresh fruit and vegetable truck that visits our community usually 3 times/week with a large assortment of fresh produce.
We are located 4.5 km (3 miles) north of the small Mexican village of La Barra de Potosi with numerous Enramadas (family run beach restaurants) and small grocery stores. Enjoy a delicious seafood meal, a plate of guacamole and a cerveza while sinking your toes into the sand. It’s a great place to hang out for an afternoon. La Barra not only faces out to the ocean, but is also backs onto the mouth of a 19 mile long lagoon where you can go kayaking, standup paddle boarding, surfing, bird watching or take an Eco Tour. It is a birder’s paradise.
In La Barra you can also easily hire a local fisherman to take you on a fishing excursion, snorkelling or perhaps to just take a trip out to Los Morros, a grouping of rocks located off the shores of Playa Blanca and home to many birds. Our bay is also home to migrating Humpback Whales and dolphins, so keep your eyes open.
We are located only a 20 minutes drive or taxi ride to Zihua or 25 minutes to Ixtapa which will give you many more dining, entertainment and shopping opportunities.
Paradise doesn’t come any closer than this.

Summary: My husband and I have been visiting Playa Blanca for several years now and are so happy to have found Jacquie and Dave’s place. I hesitate to leave this review, as I'd like to keep it a secret! But, alas, I suppose I should share. The condo is perfectly situated on the beach, allowing for walks to the north to several restaurants and also to the south to others, plus the village. Jacquie and Dave supply a great welcome package full of details of places to check out in the area. Their recommendations are spot on. One of our favorite restaurants was a mere five-minute walk.The condo itself offers a relaxing place to hang out, without the need to go anywhere! Beautifully decorated and very cozy, we found ourselves "at home" quite often, spotting whales and dolphin right out in front of us, napping in the hammock and enjoying cocktails on the terrace as we watched the sunset. One of the things I've missed the most since leaving is falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean. The condo has air conditioning, but with the ceiling fans on and ocean breeze coming in, we didn't need it.If you're looking for paradise, this is it.

Summary: What a magnificent experience! First, the location: you and the small number of units around you have a vast expanse of beach essentially to yourself. The patio has views of Los Morros, the stunning rocks in the bay; spectacular sunsets happen in the same direction. While you can walk to two fine restaurants on the beach, the place is so nice it was hard for us to leave--we mostly cooked at home, taking advantage of the fruit and vegetable truck that stops by every morning. Inside, the unit was tastefully decorated with Mexican pottery and Día de Muertos themed items. The kitchen was very well stocked--I'm a tough grader on kitchenware, and I had literally everything I wanted, including a gas stove. Barra de Potosi is a short drive if you want to watch birds in the estuary or relax with a drink at an enramada. In the other direction, there's a sea turtle conservancy at which you can watch brand new hatchlings take to the water. Zihuatanejo isn't far if you want to do something more active (we went scuba diving) or shop at the municipal market or the large supermarket. The property has a lovely pool, and the other people there (many visiting from elsewhere in Mexico) were all friendly and helpful. The staff were great, including the hard-working housekeeper for this unit and the property staff, who will even get and cut open a fresh coconut for you to drink. Jacquie and Dave communicated extremely well throughout the process, including giving us lots and lots of useful information when we arrived. They made everything easy for us. Some nits, just so you don't think I'm a positive-reviewbot: power went out two evenings, once briefly and once not-so. (The local walking-distance place still serves without power). We had a small plumbing issue that wasn't immediately repaired, but that inconvenienced the housekeeper more than us, and that can happen anywhere to anyone. We will *absolutely* be back.
