Positive: We stayed here after taking the slow boat from Laos as a stop before Chiang Mai. Lovely pool area with a couple of sunbeds and sun from morning to afternoon. Great coffee from the shop and the food in the restaurant was also really tasty. The rooms are basic but fine for a couple of nights. We got a lot of free water which was appreciated.
Negative: The location is right next to a large road and there is not much around. The closest supermarket is about 1km away and so is the only restaurant which is a noodle stand (really recommended!). So its not undoable but still a 40min walk there and back. There is also no grab in the area and only public "busses" to chiang rai which go without a real schedule so its difficult to catch without the help of locals. The restaurant at the hotel was also closed one night without information so we had to go out to find something. Lastly, the pricing was somewhat strange. They had no breakfast on the menu but made us omelets in the morning, for these thet charged 150b each + coffee which varied in price each day. We also asked for some fruit and were able to get at pear and an apple, for this they charged 300b which is just ridiculous. The pricing in the restaurant otherwise was fair.
Summary: Good for a night or two but be prepared there is nothing around

Positive: A super tasty evening meal from a real quality chef. The American breakfast was also above expectations (Bacon and real butter aren't even common in the poshest hotels around here). I didn't try the cakes but they looked amazing. The bed was actually soft and not the typical Thai plank. There was even a complimentary tooth brush kit in the room, a small thing showing that the owners are really thinking about looking after their guests.
