Positive: Lovely quiet lodge in the mountains. Staff were incredibly helpful providing drop off and pick up from the ski areas each day. Food was excellent with a good variety of dishes each day. It is possible to ski along a pathway and through a tunnel to the ski slopes but be aware of avalanche risk after heavy snowfall. Great location for us, but be aware it is up in the mountains away from the resort with nothing else around.
Negative: Indoor onsen was sometimes too hot to enjoy properly. Tumble dryer was broken but the staff allowed us to hang our wet washing in one of the other rooms with the heating on to dry it which was very good of them.

Positive: The lodge is very comfortable, warm and clean. Onsen is hot and relaxing. The view is beautiful. We stayed for seven nights and really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast and dinners are delicious and nutritious.
Negative: The location is a bit remote but road is well maintained for driving in winter if you bring your car. Upside is you will see awesome mountain view.
Summary: Great place to base yourself for ski trip in Myoko.

Positive: Great staff who were friendly, attentive and helpful. Went out of their way to help us get skiing each day dropping us to the resort of our preference. Isolated quaint lodge in the wilderness. Relaxing on site onsen.
Negative: Need transfers to get to ski villages- not ski in ski out
Summary: Quaint mountain lodge with delightful staff and peaceful surroundings

Positive: Very cosy very quiet. Surroundings are beautiful. Room was very spacious. Onsen was nice :) But the staff were the best!!! They were so kind and lovely. They even helped us arrange doctor visit and medicine when my partner was sick. Meals included were also delicious!
Negative: The drive up the last few minutes might be a bit scary on a snowy day. In saying that, we had a 2WD with snow tires and we got there fine :D

Positive: This lodge is located high up in the mountains, which gives it the most peaceful and tranquil setting. The lodge provided a shuttle which drives you everyday to whichever ski field you want within Myoko area. Thankyou Yutaka, our driver was awesome! The staff were amazing and very friendly. We couldn't speak Japanese, but the staff were wonderfully patient with us and we managed with google translate. We did the breakfast and dinner package, as there is no where to go in the evening unless you have a car. The food was really good and authentically Japanese. We loved it.
Negative: Nothing.

Positive: Very cool, retro vibe in the lodge. The staff are fantastic, the food was delicious, the room was very comfortable, & the onsen facilities were very nice. The outdoor bath is on the colder side, but the inside bath is nice & warm, so there is a nice difference between the two to try out.
Summary: Fantastic lodge

Positive: What an amazing experience staying at Tsubame Highland Lodge. The owner of the lodge might be the best Japanese person I’ve ever met - so lovely and helpful and friendly. The Onsen - a mix of cold and hot has also been my favourite of the trip. And the view of the trees and the snow from our room and lodge made it the most perfect cosy stay.
Negative: I loved dinner but breakfast wasn’t really for me (Japanese continental). Also if you aren’t out adventuring (like skiing) during the day then make sure to bring snacks for lunch as there aren’t a lot of options in the area especially if you don’t have a car. We ended up walking 1.5 hours return in search of lunch (which was actually very nice).
Summary: Live your best life in the Japanese Alps

Positive: The staff and hotel were lovely and relaxing, felt quite remote with a big window in our room showing snow covered woods.
Negative: The actual road the the hotel is on was closed, and although they advise you to go around the back way, the road is still closed, though for a shorter section. It was not plowed like the main roads and was drivable in our hire car however there was more snow expected the following day and I felt we could have gotten stuck.
