2 Bedroom House in Chewton Bushlands

Our lovely stone cottage is set on 6 acres of native Australian bushland. The house is positioned on top of the hill in the heart of Chewton Bushlands and provides amazing views across to Mount Macedon and Mount Franklin. Enjoy your days and evening looking out to the views and on those cold nights snuggle up in front of the fire..
The Space
Ukamirra is "off the grid" with solar power, tank water and gas hot-water (like most properties in Chewton Bushlands). The cottage is made of stone from the property and is set on a large platform featuring native Australian plants. There are two bedrooms, both with queen size beds. A comfy lounge and separate kitchen/dining areas with everything you need to cook up a wonderful dinner party.
We share our land with the local wildlife, so you can expect kangaroos and many native birds on the property. This is a gorgeous, private and quiet place to relax and unwind and you are welcome to roam.
The property has TV, DVD, WIFI, board games, Netflix, BBQ (gas), wood burners (lounge and kitchen), indoor and outdoor seating (6 seater options).
Given we are off the grid and on tank water, guest are requested to bring their own linen (i..e, fitted sheet, doona cover, pillow cases, towels). There are pillows and queen size duvets on each bed.
During summer the house stays relatively cool given the stone construction and each room is provided a pedestal fan. There is an old oak tree on the platform that provided the perfect spot to take shelter from the sun for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All doors and windows have fly screens.
During winter months we have plenty of firewood to keep the fire boxes burning and the house toasty.
Linen & Towels
Given we are off the grid and on tank water, guests are required to supply their own bed linen (i.e fitted sheet, doona cover, pillow cases) and towels. There are pillows and queen size bed duvets on each be along with tea towels and hand towels.
Pets
Small to medium sized pets are welcome at Ukamirra. We ask that dogs do not go on the sofa or bed; if you don't think you'll be able to prevent that, please bring along your own throws/blankets/pet beds to protect our furnishings. There are no fences and lots of native animals, so pets should not run free around the property and kept on a lead. We prefer animals are not left unattended at the house.
The Neighbourhood
Castlemaine and Chewton are 10 minutes away with many coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and boutique stores with plenty to see and do. A great area for bushwalking and bit of outdoor activities. There is always the Saturday market in Chewton and many others throughout the region.
**Please note we have a 2 night minimum stay and 3 nights on long-weekends**

Summary: What a piece of paradise. Stunning views. The cottage is divine and beautifully decorated. Quiet and the perfect place to unwind. Close to Castlemaine for restaurants. So much to do in surrounding areas. We had a day trip to Bendigo. Enjoyed relaxing by the fire at night. We had three nights but needed a week to see all the tourists spots. Didn’t notice been off grid. Communication was excellent can’t wait to rebook.

Summary: Absolutely loved our time here! James and Grant were excellent hosts, supplied all information needed ahead of time with lots of very handy local tips. Also very responsive communication! The house is exactly as described if not prettier. We had a very relaxing long weekend and there is plenty to do in the area although we were more than happy to return to our secluded paradise and enjoying the stunning view and listening to all the birds. The fireplace kept us toasty at night. We’ll be back for sure!

Summary: Comfy beds, warm wood heaters but hadn't read fineprint so didn't realise it was off grid with no microwave or electric kettle. But hot shower and amazing views made up for a couple of small inconveniences.

Summary: This was our second time staying here and we loved it just as much as the first. Last time the only thing missing was a log fire burning (it was summer), this time it completed the relaxing feel of the place. The cottage is top notch, the decor is luxurious without being over the top, and the hosts have thought of everything you might need and more. The view is simply stunning and the surrounding area is beautiful, with plenty of historical sites, walks, cafes and markets to keep you busy for at least a week. We will definitely be back, thank you for sharing your bush retreat with us Grant and James.
