Positive: Dinner and breakfast was intricately crafted with seasonal ingredients. Staff and service were attentive and friendly. The private bookable onsen at the top of the facility had a beautiful view of the water. As we visited in the fall, there were minimal bugs or mosquitoes.

Negative: While the ryokan is located in a very small town with limited transportation options, Uminohana arranged pick up and drop off which made the visit very convenient and smooth.

Positive: Nice room with a great view. Fantastic service bu the staff even though we had trouble communicating in English - tanslate apps are your friend here. Onsens are a treat, both the one in your room (which is a comfortable temperature) and the separate private onsens which you can make (free) reservations to use (which can be quite a bit hotter). Got the half board, which included a fantastic Japanese style dinner and breakfast, which were prepared beautifully and tasted amazing. The day booking came with free flow drinks during the day which I used liberally.

Negative: Not much else to do nearby, especially if you don't come by car, so would need to plan around that.

Positive: We had kaiseki meals for dinner and breakfast. All were superbly presented and delicious. Our room has a very nice ocean view and has two onsen baths (one outdoor; one indoor). We also enjoyed the hotel's large public bath which we reserved for private use. Location-wise, the hotel is just a 10-minute walk from Ajiro Station, but the roads going there are very steep so walking would have been difficult. But the hotel provided shuttle service. The hotel staff are very polite and accommodating.

Negative: The beddings are not very comfortable. They need to be upgraded. The mattress is too hard and uneven. The pillows are lumpy and uneven.

Summary: Wonderful stay. Highly recommended.

Positive: We had a fantastic time here! The staff was very welcoming and helpful, and the food was delicious. We really enjoyed the private baths and the incredible view from each one. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, and very clean. I'm super glad we stayed here. It was perfect!

Negative: Extras (additional food and drinks, or bath reservations) can be ordered via a QR code, but all of the information is in Japanese. This was not a problem for us, but if you aren't semi-fluent you might have a little trouble ordering. Most of it can be translated on your phone using Chrome or DeepL, but it would be helpful if there was an English option.

Positive: The service was very attentive, all staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not speak Japanese but were able to communicate when we needed anything. The food was really good.

Negative: Lots of steps! Limited wine choice.
