Palazzolo Acreide House | Unique restored villa with private pool nestled in unspoiled valley

5 Bedroom House in Palazzolo Acreide

This is the place you dream of discovering when coming to Sicily, a place for tradition lovers and connoisseurs, where you can taste the simple and charming life of an enchanted past. Villa Molinum is an authentically restored miller's house, drenched in history and nestled in 4 hectares of unspoiled nature. A still working mill, an always-fresh creek at 20 meters from the house and a private pool complete the idyllic picture.
A curvy country road bordered with low white walls leads to Villa Molinum. The villa consists of a white main building of 150 m2 and a pink dรฉpendance of 40 m2. The entrance to both units is a green patio overlooking a forest and the creek, where you might even spot one of the ownerโ€™s horses running freely.
The main building has four eclectically elegant double bedrooms and two luxury bathrooms, one for each floor. A spacious dining room with a well-equipped kitchen (including a dishwasher) will be the perfect frame for all your dinners, unless you cannot get enough of the stunning views of the surroundings and you prefer to enjoy your meal outdoor. The dรฉpendance consists of a double bedroom and a bathroom, and it can be a romantic hideout for a couple that wants even more privacy. There is a brand new bathroom and a changing room next to the pool.
A fireplace stove in the main building and a wood stove in the dรฉpendance will make your stay in winter warm and cosy. The thick walls of both units will not allow you to sweat while inside, not even in August.
It would be really difficult to ask for more. And yet, here it is possible. You can, for example, go trekking in the bordering Hyblean Mountains, request a horse ride together with the owner, or a dinner cooked with local and organic products. Moreover, at a very short drive or at 20 minutes on foot you can reach the town of Palazzolo Acreide, one of the most stunning Baroque towns of Sicily and Unesco Heritage since 2002, featuring gorgeous churches and an ancient Greek amphitheater. The local delicacies are salami and bread made in all different ways given the millerโ€™s tradition of the area, but you will delighted by wine and artisanal beers too. And do not miss a visit to Corsino, the oldest patisserie in town! Finally, Syracuse, sandy beaches and on the other side Mount Etna are at only 40 km.
In short, Villa Molinum is where authentic features, modern comforts, superb surroundings and a strategic location unite to create a dreamlike atmosphere and let you live a holiday of wonder.

Summary: The ultimate Sicilian experience. Very beautiful house with all the necessities you can need! Nice cool temperature inside the house even without AC. The pool is great and it has a pool house and an outside shower. Itโ€™s also great to have access to the river. The property around is beautiful. Nice decoration in the house and several spots to lounge inside and outside. Palazzolo Acreide is a nice town near the house. Great attention with the welcome basket. Mario was very helpful and Rosella was adorable and speaks well English and French. Highly recommend!! We would love to come back again.

Summary: We had an incredible family holiday at the house, the location is absolutely unique and stunning. The pool, gardens and home are authentically and beautifully Sicilian. Itโ€™s a very special place to visit, you can walk in the countryside around the house, enjoy the local wildlife, sit in the gardens or go into the local city in 7/8 minutes (car). The local restaurant are incredibly good, there are many top class places to eat and enjoy a range of locally produced great food. We ended up with 3/4 favourite places to decide on every night. The city is also beautiful, a UNESCO location, with lots to do and see. Perhaps the best part of home is the hosts themselves, they are super kind , helpful and great people to meet. They had excellent tips of where to go, what restaurants to try and helped us when our son needed a doctor. We were looking forward to a great holiday and home, and it was even better than we expected!

Summary: This place is absolutely lovely. The highlight is the outdoor areas which are so beautiful and peaceful. The pool was larger than i think the pictures show and was kept beautifully clean. Great sunbeds and lots of sunny and shady areas around the pool. The house is large and has everything you need, a very sociable kitchen and cozy sitting room. Bedrooms are all large with lots of storage. Location wise, the house is at the bottom of a narrow road so our taxi asked us to walk up to the road to pick us up. It took 20-25 mins to walk in to the town for food and restaurants. I'd recommend hiring a car as it is a little out of town and there are beatiful areas to explore around. The hosts i can not speak highly enough about. Their communication was excellent and they went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. I would highly recommend this place for your holiday.

Summary: We had a fantastic time in the Villa. The property is beautifully restored the mill and the river makes the whole place unique. Palazollo Acreide is a nice little town with kind people. The only thing was a bit difficult for us is the little road that takes us down to the villa. It is narrow and steep, probably with a normal car is fine but we had a van which was not suitable for that road. Despite of that the place is great. The hosts Mario and Rosella are very nice people they made our stay very comfortable, also the first day when they saw that we are struggling with our van on the little road they guarded us the make us safe. The mill is fantastic, must see. Thank you so much for the lovely 10 days. I hope we can be back one day.

Summary: We had a fantastic family stay at The Millers House. The comms with Giulia were clear and responsive at all times. The owners, Rosella and Mario, are absolute gems and were so welcoming and helpful. The meal Rosella and Mario organised, with Turi Chef and his wife Gisella, was magical - great food and service in a wonderful setting at the villa. A must-do experience! The house is an authentic Sicilian country villa, 300 years old and lovingly restored; its stone walls are 700mm thick and keep the villa cool at all times. The grounds and gardens are very private, and the pool area was perfect for lounge around, reading books or relaxing with a glass of wine. There are so many intimate areas in which to sit and enjoy the gardens. The nearby spring provides a lovely back-drop of running water, very soothing and calming. The town of Palazzolo Acreide is quite historic but not overrun by tourists. When we arrived, Rosella graciously took us around the local shops, and introduced us to locally-made cheese, meats, bread and arancini. What a culinary delight ! Overall, it was an amazing Sicilian villa experience and we will certainly come back again.

Summary: This house is history in Sicilyโ€ฆ. 300 years old in the real Sicilian countryside. The house is beautiful and the kitchen well stocked. The pool was where we spent a lot if our time as we hit a heat wave. Mario and rosellaโ€™s recommendations for suiting twins, restaurants and stores was fantastic! Mario even led us into town day one to show us around, bought us cheeses and introduced us yo the cheese maker. Rosella made us homemade almond milk and gave us presents including fresh Lavender and oregano from their land. These owners are truly all in โ€ฆ they responded to every question within minutes and were on site if needed quickly. They are two of the loveliest people you can ever meet.

Summary: This is a beautiful property, deep in a valley, not far from Palazzolo Acreide, a charming, although somewhat isolated town a 45 -55 minute drive from Siracusa. Mario, the owner/ host, is delightful and helpful in every way, and we all enjoyed interactions with him and Rosella and Orso! This is a very old and rustic house and its charm is also its shortcoming, in terms of the bathroom situation, which is uneven. Still, we, a three generational family had a wonderful time exploring the valley, some of us on horseback, and the plains of Akrai, with a smaller version of Siracusaโ€™s Greek theater and other wonderful ruins designated a UNESCO site. Palazzolo Acreide has some gorgeous baroque buildings, the ruins of a Norman castle, many delightful restaurants and a cooking school with Chef Turi. Alyssia, who also does cooking classes, came to cook for us two evenings. We also explored Noto, Ragusa and the Roman Villa Casale as well as Siracusa itself. Sicily is a wonderful island, the Sicilians are warm and hospitable people and we hope to return.
