The Cowman's cottage has been completely renovated in 2016 with all new furnishings. Everything inside this cottage is new from the TV to the shower right down to the cutlery. Set on a warm sunny site with great views
Whether it is a romantic weekend or a fun packed few days of activities with family we can offer it all here at Guthrie Smiith, Tutira.
The Arboretum becons with spectacular walks amongst the trees and breath taking views over Lakes Tutira, Waikapiro and Orakai. Walks within the Arboretum can range from 30 minutes up to 2 hours plus.
The nearby Tutira Church, also onsite, offers a place for reflection and meditation.
Canadian and 2 person sit on Canoes are available as part of the rental.
Other activities on site available on request include High and Low ropes, Flying Kiwi, Mud Walk, Night walk to Glow worms and fresh water Crayfish, Educational Geocache with GPS units provided, Team building activities and Guided walks.
The Arboretum is set out in Geographical sections enabling you to get an understanding of where different plants and trees originate from . We have a woodlot area where different trees are being trialled for their timber potential.
All trees are labeled for easy recognition and there is good educational signage to help make for a memorable stroll amongst the trees.
Across the Lake from us is the HBRC Tutira country park where there are more walking opportunities and spectacular views.
Just up the road we have Holts forest a hidden gem.
Also the Panpac Kiwi Creche at Lake Opouahi and Boundary stream the Department of Conservation Mainland Island.

Summary: The weather and location were amazing, no coffee, or sugar.only 10 t bags for 4 people. Not enough dish liquid for 2 days. Long dark hairs found on bathroom floor- cleanliness not A1 View and arboretum were fabulous. A lot of work is being done. Magnificent trees.

Summary: Beautiful spot with good clear instructions on how to find it. Think it had more beds than stated, was very clean and well equipped. Arboretum and kayaks were really enjoyable.

Summary: Two adults and two teenagers had a great time at the cottage. The house is well equipped and comfortable. We enjoyed kayaking on the lake, the flying fox and walking around the grounds - and just hanging out really. Lots of great walks within a fairly short drive but do check to see if the tracks are open. Tutira store (about 5 min drive) has a good range of ice creams and cold drinks. No groceries though. Napier was fantastic for a couple of day trips as well. The drive is through some beautiful areas and so doesn’t feel long. George and Kirsty very helpful as well.

Summary: My family and I really enjoyed our stay. I loved showing my children where I was brought up, and this beautiful cottage. The views were amazing and the kids absolutely loved the flying fox. Thank you so much :) P.S - I tried my hardest to ensure it was it the same condition. I also washed the towels, which you will find in the dryer. I didn't have time to wait for them to dry, so I could fold them and pack away sorry.

Summary: Thanks Kirsty and George for a lovely few days away. Such a nice spot and definitely worth the drive from Napier. There was some confusion about our arrival time, but as soon as we let them know we'd got there Kirsty made sure we had everything we needed! If we are in the area again in future we would definitely look to come back!
