Positive: Staff was great. The room was nice. The property is beautiful.

Negative: This is nitpicking. We got a suite and the extra sitting area was not a good value. It was not a useful use of space.

Positive: We had a bad experience with our room as it smelled like cigarette smoke. We asked a few times to figure it out and they couldn’t and I was able to figure out the problem. Staff was smoking below us and the smoke was traveling through the air ducts into the room. We finally moved rooms but the next room wasn’t as nice. Otherwise everything else was great !

Positive: We absolutely loved our stay at Vetera Matera. We had a very late arrival, around 11pm, and the staff were beyond accomodating. Our transfer shuttle met us at the packing garage and the communication was seemless. Giovanni was at reception upon check in, and was an absolute delight. Francesco was also very helpful, with wine and snacks ready when requested even at such a late arrvial time. Both were so proud of the hotel and the area, full of great tips and lots of history about the hotel and the area. Our room was amazing, we had a terrace which was so great to see the view late at night. The breakfast was lovely too, and we were sad we were only there for one night! Can not recommend this hotel enough. A great location to discover the town, with the friendliest of staff! (Fillipe who carried our bags up and down those stairs and drove us back to our car was amazing as well).

Negative: Nothing, we loved it all.

Summary: A hightlight of our trip to Puglia staying at this hotel. Built into the caves, it is truly magical.
