Passing a small copse of Holm Oak trees where a hammock has been slung and around the corner of the villa, the view of mountains dotted with villages unfolds in all its magnificence. The pale pastel rose facade of the villa and beautiful pool at one with the serenely peaceful backdrop of rural Crete and the White Mountains, occasionally still snow topped very early in the season.
Villa Galania has been constructed in an atmospheric period style thanks to the skillful use of simple local materials. Covered balconies and terraces provide shade and respite from the heat of the sun, whilst the villa's stone faced doorways and rough hewn timbered ceilings add an authentic touch of the past. Villa Galania is furnished and equipped to a high standard and the owners really have ticked all the boxes down to the smallest detail.
Outside around the 9m x 4m pool and adjoining children's pool, there's a huge amount of living space including a smart alfresco cover dining area, a lounge area, a table soccer, plus a rusticated covered barbecue complete with Cretan oven and a small fridge for drinks.
Location
Set on a small hill above the village of Armeni and only 800 metres from Armeni village square, Villa Galania is ideally placed to enjoy the rural idyll whilst still being within reasonable walking distance of the choice of tavernas, cafenion and cafe in the village. The sandy beaches of Kalives and Kyani are just 5 minutes drive away.
Villa Galania is well placed for discovering this western side of the island, being a convenient 5 min drive to the junction to the east-west highway and thus an easy 30 min trip into Chania.

Summary: Improvements to the seating area by the pool and new parasols. The addition of handrails on the stairs was welcome. A super villa and we are already booked for 2026 There is a strong odour from the washing machine area in the second bedroom that needs to be looked into. For us it wasn't an issue but if you don't like cats that could be a problem. The 5 cats that were there in 2024 have increased to 11 and one of the females is pregnant. We spoke to Claire about this and she were aware of the situation.

Summary: All on the flat, with one set of stairs to the bedrooms. Mattress toppers in the twin bedroom please. Also, we prefer the patio chairs and not the patio settees

Summary: Enjoyed the peace and wonderful views from a variety of different spots around the grounds. The new shaded seating area was a very good addition. The sun shade was in a fixed position so there was no adjustment in accordance with the position of the sun. Previously there were two shades. A additional hand rail on the stairs would make the stairs more manageable for both young and old.

Summary: Great location and views. A small handle to pull the dining room patio door closed from the outside. New pegs please as the plastic ones snap because of the UV: Wooden ones would work. Improved bannister on the stairs.

Summary: On our second visit we found that improvements to the decor as well as the Galania towels, pillows and sheets had brightened the villa up giving a more modern feel. The pool, bbq, comfortable bed and outdoor space including shaded areas were as good as ever. We enjoyed walking into the village to the taverna and the butcher's shop. By chance we found a good supermarket in Neo Chorio - the mini market in Almeni was less well stocked. Very small details. Two of the outside lights under the canopy flickered and one of the lights by the bbq did not come on with the remaining external lights. There is now an electric gate at the entrance to Villa Amvrosia & Galania with a key code to retrieve the gate fob to open the gate on initial arrival but this was not mentioned in the arrival instructions.

Summary: The villa suits us perfectly in terms of size, facilities and location. We noticed the improvements from our last visit, namely, the addition of a hair dryer in the second bedroom, the improve childrens’ pool and the redecoration which makes the house seem lighter and refreshed. Claire and Antonio are great hosts. Already booked for next year. One of the parasols needs to be securely fixed into it’s housing the current wood pieces used to fill the housing don’t keep the pole in place.

Summary: We really enjoyed the stunning location with panoramic views. It was great to be able to stroll 15 mins into the village. The villa was well equipped, the pool was a good size and an outdoor kitchen area ideal for barbecues. Very small things. The external lighting around the pool and seating areas came on around midnight. Whereas the light outside the lounge area and in the seating area furthest from the villa did not seem to work via the switches in the villa.

Summary: Just love the place ! And surrounding villages and ambience ! For us paddies (and Brits I suspect !) would love to have milk left there We need our cuppa in the morning Usually arrive in late Maybe a few more towels
