Summary: We were unfortunate with the weather, but the house made up for the lack of sun. Staying in this house is an experience in itself! The surroundings are very idyllic, and the architecture of the old houses in the neighbouring villages is remarkable. Our kids enjoyed the hikes up to Vrin and Vella - the house is located in a great place for nature lovers! For restaurants in the area we recommend hotel Pez Terri in Vrin.

Summary: We stayed at this property for 2 weeks. We loved the house and the location. The views were fabulous, and there were nice hiking trails nearby. The WIFI and cell service are excellent so we were able to work remotely. There are not lot of activities and restaurants nearby, and the roads in the area are narrow and windy (which American are not accustomed to), but we were very happy with remote, spectacularly beautiful location and very charming house. We did drive to Ilanz a couple of times and to Chur, and both are interesting towns to visit. Ilanz has a nice farmers market (Saturday mornings) and history museum.

Summary: Location, location, location. The setting of this property with its stunning view of the Lumnezia valley cannot be beat. The only sounds are cowbells, birdsong, the wind, and the flowing river below. It is a wonderful getaway from the city, with unlimited spectacular hiking opportunities in the area. The 150-ish year old house is quaint and cozy, like stepping back in time except (thankfully) for the modern bathroom and kitchen. When the temperature drops, you can light a wood fire in the receptacle in the kitchen which heats up the lovely stone oven in the living room. The good quality linens in the bedrooms keep you comfortable and warm at night. Late at night when the sky is clear, it is amazing to gaze at the stars above the backlit mountains. One caveat: the stairs to the bedrooms on the second floor are steep--though there is a railing to grasp. And the only WC is downstairs. Also, beware of the low door frames and beams. After a head bump or two, you learn to duck. There is one bedroom where the ceiling is so low, my husband could not stand up in there. But these quirks are part of the old charm of the place. Thanks to Sonja for quick communications and to her mother for being so accommodating at check in and making sure we had everything we needed. It was a lovely stay that we highly recommend.

Summary: My wife and I and our young daughter stayed for two weeks. We had a wonderful time, with an amazing view of the mountains and valley, and a yard, swing set, and toys for the little one. Breakfast on the upstairs porch every morning looking out over the mountains was impossible to beat. The surrounding area is incredibly lovely, filled with natural beauty and charming towns. The hosts were lovely, and we had no problems at all.

Summary: We had a really enjoyable two weeks in this traditional Swiss farmhouse. The description does not do the house justice. The Val Lumnezia is breath-taking, the house is perched on the side of the mountain overlooking a village and up (and up) to peaks above covered in snow - at least in September. It's really just beautiful. We enjoyed sitting in the sun each morning for coffee watching the mountains change as the light shifted. There are various trails from the house, going up the mountain, to the valley below and up the other side - all beautiful. The house is also well-situated it's easy to get to the market, surrounding towns, to Vals or further afield to other areas (including Maienfeld - for amazing Pinot Noir). The house is comfortable, a very useful kitchen - we prepared many meals, comfortable beds and a nice table in the front room with (again) a stunning view. A couple low ceilings are the only small negative, but not a big issue (I'm 192cm). This is a place I'd recommend to friends and family, and look forward to returning again and again.

Summary: From our first contact with Sonja to our check-out out with her parents, we couldn't have had a better experience. The house, set on the edge of a steep hill overlooking a valley with a small village below, was perfect. It was a family home for several generations and pictures on the walls showed some of those who had lived there in the past. We had some rainy days but never lacked for something to do. We were three generations from 2 to 72 and we were all in love with the Place. On a particularly cold evening, Sonja 's father appeared to show us how to use the big stone fireplace. We hiked, swam in a small lake 10 minutes from the house, took a train ride up toward Andermatt in search of snow (requested by our 6 year old grandson who wanted to make snowballs!). While hiking, we saw a farmer and his daughter rounding up the cows with their dogs responding to whistles, made fondue, read Heidi, saw the starry, starry sky, and were sorry when the week was over. Thank you for sharing your wonderful house.

Summary: I’ve read lots of reviews on travel websites, but never felt compelled to write one…until now. I always read reviews with caution because everyone has different tastes and expectations. So I’ll try to provide the appropriate context here. For us, this place was very special. We’ve travelled to many parts of Switzerland and love the country…especially the Alps. This time we wanted something remote, rustic yet with a few modern conveniences, and unique. The farmhouse in San Andriu was perfect for us. The house is spacious yet cozy, rustic yet charming,..and the views are beautiful! It is very well equipped and we were happy to find a fondue pot, a raclette grill, and everything else we needed to cook every meal. It also had a perfect combination of old (wood burning stove, piano, furniture) and new (bathroom, washer/dryer, wireless internet, TV/DVD). The photos and information they listed were accurate, but of course you can't capture the feeling of breathing mountain air in a photo or in words. One caution: the stairs up to the bedrooms are steep, however there’s a way to close them off at night, so we never worried in regard to our child. There are multiple hiking options and we enjoyed the varied terrain and views during our daily 3 – 4 hour hikes with our 13 year old dog and 4 year old daughter. We were all happy to see cows, sheep, goats, horses, and donkeys throughout the area (including a few cows which passed by the kitchen window most mornings). We also appreciated that the store in the closest village of Lumbrein is well stocked and the owner is very nice. Finally, I have to mention that the Coray-Capaul family who owns the house was incredibly friendly and helpful to us. We only speak English and a little French and that was never a problem. They absolutely made our stay even more enjoyable. We have every desire and intention to rent the house again on our next trip back to Switzerland.

Summary: We were very please to find the chalet to be a truly authentic and quaint house tucked away in a quiet hamlet of only 6 houses and a chapel. The environment is quiet and peaceful, except for the sound of cow bells and church bells. The building itself is over 120 years old but has been renovated and equipped with modern conveniences without destroying the charm of the original features (including the functional wood-burning stone stove in the living room used for cold nights). The view out of the chalet windows was of breathtaking sceneries: alps, snow capped mountains and scattered villages in the valley. The bedrooms were large and the beds and duvets very comfortable. There was easy access and plenty of walking paths to alp meadows, forests and villages. Easy access in the neighbouring village of Lumbrein (2.5 km) to a couple of restaurants, 2 grocery stores and a dairy/cheese producer who produces absolutely incredible butter from the milk of the local cows. The kind owners were very helpful and lived conveniently close by so they could address any needs we had. We would gladly make it a regular destination on our holiday calendar. Viewing tip: the tiny chapel has an incredible interior that is not to be missed. Driving Tip: Plan extra time for getting to the chalet if you are unfamiliar with driving on the narrower, winding, alpine roads.
