Summary: We enjoy the property. It was in a nice, secluded location. The house had everything that we need it. It was a short walk down the hill. If you wanted to go to the beach or any of the local restaurants, it was great.

Summary: We enjoyed our stay despite a few issues at the property. We had a failure of an AC unit and a toilet as well as some leaking when we were struck with a thunder storm. Gillian responded in a timely fashion to the AC and Toilet issues and these were rectified in the time frame as promised by Gillian. The leaking issue resolved itself once the thunder storm had passed. Despite these issues our stay was thoroughly enjoyable and we would choose this property again.

Summary: This house is lovely the views, the pool the ambiance, its rustic look makes it feel like home. It's just outside of speightown shopping area and the beach but I suggest you drive as the house is set away from others. I stayed with my hubby and our children and we had a great time. Thank to Gillian and Guy who were great host responded to us in quick time when we had a query. We'll be back soon.

Summary: First of all, you have to appreciate that this property is c. 200 years old and what it lacks in today's 'mod cons', it certainly makes up for in pure history, character and presence. That's not to say that it didn't provide everything we needed either, with four beautiful bedrooms, all air conditioned, one en-suite and two further bathrooms, we had exactly what we needed. The lounge and kitchen areas were fantastic and the pool and outdoor area overlooking the sea was stunning - complimented by not two, but three monkey performances!

Summary: When we first arrived at dusk we though it was a bit in the sticks, but upon waking up the views were great and realised that it was only a short 10 minute walk into town.

Summary: We was very impressed with the size of the property, it was hidden away in the hill above Speightstown with a fantastic view of the Caribbean sea where there was a fantastic covered place to eat dinner and watch the sunset. This clearly has been a loved home for a family with great suggestions on places to see and eat with a full bookcase and sun hat too. The only negative comment would be that one of the AC broke in the bedrooms and it took a few days to get this fixed but apart from that one issue this house met all of our expectations and we had a wonderful holiday.

Summary: This is a property with SO much potential. It’s so big and spacious, yet it lacks simple things that surely would be a must. Only the bedrooms have AC which is bizarre. The living room and kitchen/dining area gets uncomfortably hot and is impossible to cool down. The kitchen is a bit dirty and the dishwasher hardly works. The bedrooms are comfortable although have nets open to outside and so is incredibly loud at night and can get very hot if you don’t keep the fan or AC on. Our favourite part of the property was outside. It was beautiful and the pool was great. The property really needs some investment to get it where it should be. The owner was brilliant and helpful. It has a lot of potential. I would definitely recommend getting a car.

Summary: We had the privilege of spending 3 weeks here. We were joined by 8 others at various times but there was room for all in this gorgeous house. Gillian was an excellent host who sent us detailed e-mails of everything we needed to know. She clearly wants her guests to enjoy their experience and have fun. There are very few "rules". It is as if it is understood that one would automatically treat the grand old lady that is Curates House with the gentle respect that she deserves while delighting in the all the hospitality she has to offer. We did have trouble with AC and a loose door handle. Two days after an e-mail was sent a brand new AC unit and handle were installed. Follow up e-mail confirmed that we were happy. It is only responsible and fair to notify the owner of any concerns so that they can be addressed. There is a casual elegance to Curates House that photos do not quite capture. It is well laid out, nicely furnished and has plenty of storage, hangers and closets. It is spacious, luxurious and comfortable; steeped in history but with every modern convenience. The outdoors are private and where we very contentedly spent hours every day. We would be beckoned out by blue, sunny skies, an ocean view and a lovely breeze. The pool was warm and sized for a swim. The areas for lounging, chatting and dining were perfectly furnished and accessorized. The pool was cleaned and the area swept every Tuesday and Friday. Grace arrived weekly to make up the beds in crisp, fresh linen and left the floors and baths sparkling. Speightstown is not a resort town. It is a Barbadian town where we found typical Bajan grocery stores, a fish market (go early for best selection), pharmacies, vegetable stands, shops and restaurants that serve both locals and visitors. Holetown, 20 minutes away offers the resort experience with upscale shopping, gourmet and wine outlets and Massey's grocery store. It was a great place to visit but I was glad we were not living there. I wanted a more authentic taste of the Barbados and that is just what we got at Curates House. Thank you, Gillian for sharing this treasure with us.
