2 Bedroom House in Skandia

Comfortable, clean, private duplex, just 15 minutes from Marquette.
Surrounded by woods and next to Camp 4 Road (a gateway to snowmobiling, overlanding, and adventure mountain biking), this is a perfect place to stay if you’re looking for a gateway to adventure or a tranquil place to stay while still being just a few minutes from all that Marquette and the central Upper Peninsula have to offer.
You’ll enjoy high speed WiFi, in-unit washer and dryer, a well-appointed kitchen, and more.
The space
This comfortable, clean, private duplex connects to the other unit through a garage, so you have privacy and silence. 4 people can sleep in the bedrooms and a 5th can sleep on the living room couch (pillows and linens are in the bedroom closet). We can also provide a single roll-away cot or inflatable air mattress with advance notice at the time of your booking.
While it doesn't fit into any hip description of style or trendy architecture, it's well maintained, wonderfully comfortable, and surrounded by beautiful Upper Peninsula woods.
The living room has one couch, two comfortable upholstered sitting chairs, an ottoman, end tables, a smart TV, and a dedicated work desk. The drawers under the television have a variety of games and other fun things to do if you're stuck inside on a rainy or snowy afternoon.
The kitchen has a table to seat 6, a full-size range and oven, stainless steel sink, full-size refrigerator, and ample selection of cutlery, silverware, pots, pans, strainers (we stayed in a vacation rental without a strainer, once...), and cooking essentials. Coffee, tea, and a few basic instant meals (think ramen) are provided to tide you over until you can get to a grocery store.
There is a stacked washer and dryer unit in a utility closet off the kitchen.
The full bathroom has towels and wash cloths for 6, a basic assortment of toiletries, bug spray, med kit items, and other essentials.
The master bedroom has a king bed and a second smart television, along with a large closet, iron, ironing board, oscillating floor fan, and laundry basket.
The second bedroom has a double bed, smaller closet, oscillating fan, children's toys and books, and a second work desk.
The backyard has a small paved patio and charcoal grill that are shared with the other unit. A private firepit is located at the edge of the backyard..
There is paved parking for one car in front of the garage, along with ample parking in the gravel, plowed areas for other vehicles and trailers. The driveway is a pull-through, U-shaped drive that connects with the neighboring duplex, making it easy to manage a snowmobile or 4-wheeler trailer.
The internet is a 300 MBPS symmetrical fiber optic connection that's distributed by a WiFi router. If you're looking for a serene place to work remotely, this is it!
Guest access
You have private, full access to the entire 2-bedroom, 1-bath duplex unit, including your own washer and dryer.
The garage is between the two units in this duplex, so there isn't a shared wall between you and the other unit. Please note that you do not have access to the garage.
The driveway, patio, backyard, and charcoal grill are shared between the units.
Other things to note
Most importantly, we know you're on vacation and are paying a modest cleaning fee. We'll ask you to wash your dishes and clean up any real messes in the kitchen, but we'll do the rest.
In the winter, we hire out the plowing and snow clearing. Our plow guys are fantastic and get to us as fast as they can, but there may be times when there is some notable snow on the ground before they arrive. The same goes for Yalmer Road.
The house is surrounded by beautiful, peaceful Upper Peninsula woods. We work hard to keep the residents of those woods outdoors where they belong, but you may encounter bugs, spiders, and furry friends. Mosquito season peaks in late May and June; we offer bug spray for our guest's convenience. We also have a perimeter rodent bait system around the foundation that does an excellent job of keeping mice out of the house. You're most likely to encounter a mouse in September and October when they're actively looking for places to spend the winter.
The house is about 15 minutes from Marquette, 20 minutes from the hospital, 25 minutes from the NMU campus, and 45 minutes from Munising and the Pictured Rocks. It's a wonderful gateway to adventure and exploration in the U.P.!

Summary: The home was spotless, and the beds and other furniture were very comfortable. When we arrived, there was a little glitch with the access code, but the host called me right after being notified of the issue, and he fixed it remotely in about a minute! There are many little thoughtful touches such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers in the shower, filled ice cube trays in the freezer, and extra fans in each bedroom. Having a washer and dryer there was great, too - no having to pack dirty laundry back home! The location was very convenient to most of the activities my friend and I did, so we didn't have to travel far before we could sit back and relax at the end of each day. I'm hoping to take another UP vacation next summer and will plan to stay at this home again. 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Summary: We wanted to visit the Great Lakes and stayed at this location to visit Lake Superior. We loved that it wasn’t “in town” but close enough to Marquette to be able to do things there and presque Isle park. Would definitely stay again! Thank you!

Summary: There were 4 of us that enjoyed our time in the U.P. - from waterfall tours, boat tour of the Pictured Rocks, and lots of pasty eating. The cabin was clean, centrally located, and came with little extras that came in handy. Everything was perfect so there was no need to contact our host - this cabin will be our "go to" when heading up north.
