Summary: I’ve never given a poor review before but it’s time, and I’ve stayed in many VRBO homes including three in the last six weeks. We were in Beaumont for parent’s funeral and needed a place for our family (three adult children and spouses) so short notice to find lodging. The positive: Relatively clean, comfortable beds, clean bedrooms, no cigarette or mildew smells. The rest: Kitchen: This house advertises as sleeps 12 but I’ve never been in a more poorly provisioned kitchen which wouldn’t have served six, much less 12. There were 7 adults in our party and this kitchen had 4 plates, around 6 each of fork, knife, spoon though not matching. Four bowls, six glasses, two mixing bowls, a colander, basic plastic spatulas, measuring spoons and cups. Two pots, a sauce pan and a skillet. That’s it. In the entire kitchen. No baking sheet, no 9x13 Pyrex. Never in 10+ years of using VRBO as my vacation rental provider have I experience this ridiculous excuse of a “stocked” kitchen. And the “granite” countertops? Disgusting peeling contact paper. The tile backsplash? Nasty stick on rubber fake tile. The handles were sticky. The cabinets needed cleaning. Upside down live roach. Bathrooms: Gloss paint that is peeling covers every tile surface in the hall bathroom. No shampoo. Two washcloths (SLEEPS 12 they say), no hairdryer. Second bathroom similarly not stocked but actual tile in shower. Bedrooms: Beds were comfortable, clean sheets. Weird thing here was two pillows on each bed that were covered with pillow shams not pillow cases. There are big TVs everywhere so there’s that. Cheap, uncomfortable furniture. And the total pricing scam that made me so mad but due to funeral and no other close choices I paid. 12 people it says — but they charged me $25 for each person over 2 per night more. Charged a random $261 fee just labeled “additional charges” Need in 15 minutes early (3:45pm) to change clothes for funeral home visitation? That will be an extra $40. I declined on principle. Never have I ever worked with a property owner who did that! They are always accommodating— not this group. Scammy? Yep. VRBO this makes me want to never use your service again — lost a lot of trust here! And I’ve let everyone I know how ridiculous this was.
