Positive: Stayed at Zen Chalets in one of the budget 1 bedroom Cabins which were super cute and cosy. Location is excellent !!! - steep road was not an issue as there is an easy flat walk to the Gondola, restaurants and bars. We hired a car which was great. Staff and owners were friendly and very helpful. All the little extras like , juice and breakfast foods were much appreciated. We have already booked one of the new bigger Villas for next season! Can’t wait to go back again.
Summary: Amazing stay! We have already booked again for next year.

Positive: Hakuba was a beautiful place. The communication with the owners was top notch. Because we were up a very steep hill, and had no car, they offered to pick us up and take us to the grocery store or give us a ride to nearby restaurants. The beds were comfortable and the wifi was great. Everyone we spoke to was extremely accommodating and kind.
Negative: When I rented Zen Chalet, I assumed I would get what was in the photos. But as it got closer to our trip, we were sent images of the house we were in and it was a lot smaller than I imagined. When we arrived, it was not the place we saw in the photos. When I looked online, it appears that they put photos of ALL their properties on one listing and they put us in the one that fit us best. A little deceiving. The unit was on the older side and although there were upgrades, the wiring to the house was old, so when we would use the dryer, it would trip the electrical breaker, which was VERY difficult when I was trying to dry our wet snow clothes before we left. They were apologetic, but nothing much that could be done unfortunately.
Summary: Sweet hosts, small place for family of 5.

Negative: We were very close to Happo One but unfortunately the routes were too hard for beginners so we end up having to go to different areas for snowboarding.

Positive: Location is great. Just up the road from the main gondola. The problem when it is really snowy, is that it is located down a really steep and long driveway type road that taxis and the ski rental company wouldn't drive down so you often had to navigate that in the dark with snow and ice on the road which could be a bit treacherous. The staff were fantastic. So helpful and friendly and able to drop you off at dinner or to ski lessons.
Negative: I think the usability of the chalet would be improved by adding a basin to the stand-alone toilet and a more solid door rather than a sliding door to the main bedroom that is located just off the living area.

Positive: Good communication from host's team of staff, swift pick up from the bus station to the accommodation, with grocery & dinner drop offs (although limited timings). Complimentary wine, milk & bread was appreciated. Good to have a dryer though we hoped it'd worked better (power trips).
Negative: Didn't realize the location was abit far (and on a steep slope) from the main street, even some places (Lion adventure) refused to pick us up due to the steep slope. It was always a rather slippery (but beautiful) walk through the forest to get in & out of the accommodation. Also the power is not stable and tripped multiple times when a few things were at play, for example you can't use the hairdryer when the shower is running, or you can't run the dryer when the room's heater is on. & definitely you can't run both washer & dryer together. At one point we had to turn off all electricity so we could run the dryer and it was a little stressful as we had to take extra time to stay in to ensure things were running before we left home (or we'd be left with wet clothing). The living room was also quite small to be very honest, we were a group of three girls and with luggages placed on the floor there was practically nowhere to walk. There were enough beds for four upstairs but with the limited space below I really do not recommend having more than three pax. Finally it was quite stuffy on the second floor and there was no air conditioning control. It would be good to get some ventilation upstairs.

Negative: Front entrance a bit squashy. No hand basin for second toilet. Not much storage for clothes/suitcases
