Nearby, visit 16th-century Thirlestane Castle, and Lauder, 6 miles, has good local shops, restaurants, pubs, a gallery and an excellent coffee shop. Kelso and Melrose both have magnificent abbeys, great historic houses and gardens, interesting shops and a variety of cafés and restaurants. There are cycling and walking routes to suit all abilities, along with uncrowded golf courses and world famous fishing on the River Tweed and its tributaries.
