Summary: What a magical cottage and setting! This place has it all: sweeping views of the Chama River Valley and Pedernal, front and back patios for relaxing outside, very comfortable accommodations inside, and a wonderful host who has thought of everything you might need and whose helpfulness, friendliness and warmth will make your stay all the more memorable. The kitchen if stocked with delicious breakfast options and is also fully equipped for cooking other meals. The rental book has lots of suggestions for adventuring along with detailed directions. Jeff is also available to answer any questions and is very helpful. The back patio is wonderful for night sky viewing and has a barbeque and a chiminea where you can make a lovely fire. We used our SkyView app to view the night sky and woke up early to see the dawn. We hiked to Plaza Blanca where we took fabulous photos of the beautiful rock formations, thanks to Jeff’s advice on which paths to take. Morning coffee on the front patio was accompanied by dozens of hummingbirds at the feeders. Jeff left a variety of food to feed his sweet horse and donkeys. Our only regret is that we couldn’t have stayed longer but we will be back!

Summary: A friend of mine, who happens to be a local from Abiquiu, recommended Casita de Chuparosa for our weekend stay. The Casita is nestled in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico but with all of the amenities you may be used to in your everyday life. There is a window unit in each room if you are visiting in the summer and a fireplace as well in case you are visiting in the winter. Both of the bedrooms offer great views of the sunset each night and there is a little patio off of the main bedroom so you can enjoy the scenery outside as well. The owner/proprietor, Jeff, is super friendly and very easy to get along with. The Casita is essnetially an in-law suite that is attached to the side of his house, without any inner, connecting doors. The Casita is fully self-sufficient, down to the washer and dryer to clean clothes that may get muddy in a summer thunderstorm. My husband and I had to get up super early every morning we were there just to make some of the activities that we planned and I was worried that we would wake Jeff up, but he told me that we didn't make any noise sufficient to wake him. The Casita is about an hour drive from Taos and Espanola, though there are plenty of local things to do in the area. Jeff provides his cell number once you book the place and is super quick to text back about any questions you may have about the Casita, or things to do in the area. Many of the county roads in the area are gravel/dirt, including the one leading up to Duane Drive, so be sure to rent or bring a vehicle that can traverse difficult terrain, though the roads are well maintained so that's not 100% necessary. Jeff also has three donkeys, two llamas, and a horse that love his visitors and their willingness to feed them treats. Jeff recommends using Google Maps when trying to locate his property and that app led us there from Albuquerque's airport with no problems whatsoever, right up to the door of the Casita. Our stay was so wonderful. If we are ever in the area again, we will look to Casita de Chuparosa for our stay!

Summary: We spent a wonderful adventure-filled week in Casita Chuparosa recently and look forward to returning. The casita is atop a west-facing hill with a wide open view out toward the Chama River valley; gorgeous sunsets and from the front of the property spectacular sunrises. The home is furnished so beautifully and comfortably, one could spend a lot of time inside if there weren't so many things to do in the surrounding areas. In fact, we were hoping for a rainy day to force us to stay inside a little longer!! And lightening would be spectacular from this aerie! Jeff makes it very easy to find all the things there are to do by providing wonderful hand drawn ( and accurate) maps and directions and can be there personally to answer any questions. Although the home where he lives is attached to the casita one is not aware of this and the casita and surrounds are nicely private. He provides wonderful farm eggs, home roasted coffee, homemade preserves, breads/bagels and organic dairy products. In the very private back area are a great BBQ, a raised fire pit that keeps the outside dining area heated and a garden area for sun basking or sunset watching. A decked hot tub is a short desert walk away; solar lights make the path easy to navigate. If you like animals, there is a beautiful and very tall Tennessee Walker paint, 3 mini-donkeys and 2 llamas to entice with treats. Llamas are shy but the others are delightfully friendly! Oh! The hummingbirds!!!!! Chuparosa means hummer in local dialect. We have Never Seen So Many Hummers In One Place In Our Lives!!! Totally awesome, dozens at a time on the feeders, resting in the juniper or zooming around! Bright yellow and black western tanagers also visit their own feeder to feast on jelly and little bunnies hop around to check out the birdseed Jeff puts out early in the morning. Everything combines to make this a perfect place to stay and chill on your trip to Abiquiu...

Summary: My friends and I throughly enjoyed our time at Casita de Chuparosa! From the moment our host, Jeff, opened the front gate for us, until he actually loaded our suit cases in the car when we departed, it could not have been better! The kitchen was stocked better than most homes, and the beds were comfortable. My friends and I are artists, and we were able to paint for days on the beautiful property. If you are looking for a treat for the eyes and the soul you could not do better than this charming casita.

Summary: We enjoyed every minute of our stay at the Casita and in the area. Thank you for all of your thoughtful hospitality, I especially enjoyed watching the Chuparosa's at their feeders out front. Hope to come back! Warmly, Karen, Karin & Echo (Albuquerque) Mary and Joni (Portland, OR.)

Summary: Casita de Chuparosa promised a lot, and delivered even more! The Casita was spacious, gracious and absolutely charming. Decorated in the southwestern style with everything you need for a fabulous stay. The views in every direction are breathtaking including the sunsets over Pedernal. Jeff was an excellent host. All of our needs were met and exceeded. We had plenty of privacy in several sitting areas outside. And Jeff gave us maps and information on local attractions, places to eat, some of the local lore. A piece of my heart will stay with Buster, Jeff's beautiful horse and the three miniature donkeys, who provided daily entertainment. A very private hot tub with views of the entire valley and the surrounding mountains... Under the stars… Ahh!

Summary: This was our casita for a girls getaway for three nights - and all four of us were so impressed and grateful! It is impeccably well thought out, charming décor, equipped with anything you might need (and more)! The hot tub under a starry, cold night was a perfect first night after our road trip to Abiquiu. Jeff sent us an email before our trip with so many GREAT suggestions, making our experience and use of our time better than we imagined. Meeting Jeff was a pleasure, never intrusive, very interesting storyteller, ever-willing to offer help and such a nice person! The setting feels rural and spacious, yet the location is very convenient to Ghost Ranch, Ojo Caliente, Plaza Blanca and Rancho de San Juan Sacred Art Cave. Highly recommend Casita de Chuparosa.
