Ulster Park House | A perfect get-away from NYC!

3 Bedroom House in Ulster Park

This historic and cozy home was built in 1818 as a Dutch stone colonial and was once part of an extensive apple farm along the Hudson River. Some locals believe that this property was also connected to the underground railroad and Sojourner Truth. The Yellow Dutch Cottage has been meticulously restored over a six-year period, and sits on approximately two acres with an aerated pond in back (sorry, but no swimming!). The interior is decorated throughout with period furniture, antiques and oil paintings, and historical paint colors and fabrics were utilized during the home's renovation.
There are three guest bedrooms upstairs and a lovely family room downstairs with a pull-out daybed (sleeps two). The house is complete with numerous board games, puzzles, etc and two different porches in which to rest and relax (and read ... there are a number of books throughout the house, as well). There is wi-fi and also "smart" TVs in the bedrooms and the family room (along with a DVD player and some family-friendly DVDs to watch if you're so inclined).
The kitchen comes equipped with dishes, pots, pans, microwave, oven, etc. so you are welcome to cook meals during your stay. We have some basic spices and the like in the cupboard. We are happy to provide a basic breakfast and will give you a few options from which to choose.
If you want something special upon your arrival like fresh flowers, wine or champagne, some catered food ... please let us know and we will try to accommodate your wishes. The house is just 15 minutes south of Kingston and two hours north of NYC. We are happy to make recommendations for local restaurants and other activities, depending on the season.

Summary: Had a girls weekend here for Rhineback. We enjoyed the fall foliage and waking up to deer in the yard. The house is extremely clean and comfy. The sheets were so soft! I would suggest having something with the history of the underground railroad or that specific area.

Summary: We had an amazing time on our girls' weekend. We were close enough to Kingston, Beacon and Hyde Park. We went to the Mid-Hudson walking bridge. We even had time to watch a movie and hang out on the beautiful screened porch. A wonderful weekend in a comfy, cozy house!

Summary: Lovely 1818 house in the country. Don't stay here if you are looking for ultra modern conveniences. Do stay if you love history and period houses furnished with antiques. We spent most of our time in the dinning room/kitchen combination. or out on the screened=in porch. The kitchen was equiped with all the modern appliances. There was also a more formal parlor and a finished lower level with a small bathroom and large walk-in shower. On the second floor were three bedrooms and one bathroom. One of the bedrooms was pretty small but both the other bedrooms were large enough for a wing chair and in the larger room a settee. The thick walls provided a lot of deep window sills to put things on. Air conditioning was window units and there was not one in the small bedroom but was one outside in the wide hallway. Someone had tried to fix the stair railing but it was a bit shakey and the stairs were pretty steep. There are not many stores or restaurants close by but we ate one night at Stonehenge which was the closest and had good meals. Other nights we ate in Kingston or other towns before coming back to the house. The first night it was unseasonably hot and we had a lot of small bugs attracted to the dining room light but after buying bug spray never used it. There were also a number of stink bugs but I have them at my modern house in Maryland too. At this point there were not screens on the windows but don't know if they will have them later in the season. As I said if you want modern this is not the place for you but if you want to have charm this place has it!

Summary: Visited the Hudson River Valley for a few days and the cottage was a lovely place to stay! Convenient to many attractions and restaurants but made you feel like you were far away in a very peaceful location. The antique home, furnishings and decor were lovely and the grounds were beautiful.

Summary: We searched for a place that would give us the peace and serenity we were looking for a family getaway. We wanted a place that was large enough for us to also have privacy, while spending some time catching up. We found it at this beautifully restored Dutch Colonial Yellow House. There is much history in the house and it felt at times as if we were seeing how the inhabitants in the house may have lived many years ago.

Summary: I and my husband both love Hudson Valley area and wanted to show it to our friends. This house was a great find for our weekend stay. Location was perfect for a few reasons: close to Minnewaska state park, where we were hiking, close to Rail Trail where we were biking and bunch of great places to eat. House itself is well maintained and beautiful. Everything you need you can find easily. Hosts were awesome on answering all our questions promptly. Overall we had a wonderful relaxing weekend full of activities we enjoyed. Irina
