Positive: Beautifully designed hotel in stunning landscape with gorgeous views. Very friendly, helpful and personal service. The concierge staff went way beyond the call of duty to help us in every way. This hotel also holds the record for the quickest laundry service that we have ever experienced over decades of travel, almost defying the laws of physics. The 3 Michelin Star restaurant experience was out of this world.

Negative: The original, older restaurant building is starting to need an upgrade, especially in comparison with the newer, super-elegant hotel building. But the only drawback of Hotel Akelarre worth mentioning is the pricing: at this level, they have some pretty serious competition, including some of the very best hotels in the world with super-professional service - and the small, boutique Akelarre is not quite able to compete on that playing field. But it makes up for a lot of the difference with genuine hospitality, personality and warmth.

Summary: Supremely beautiful hotel and surroundings, wonderful food, great service - but expensive.
