2 Bedroom House in Salenthal, Sommerau

Rouge Eglantine is a 100m2 half-timbered Alsatian farm that its owners saved from demolition and transplanted to the village in which they live themselves. The cottage is located in a quiet village of 220 inhabitants with an ideal location for both leisure and tourist activities or access to local services: hypermarket, various shops, restaurants are located 5 minutes from the rental.
Animals (cat / dog) are accepted there at an additional cost and after consultation with the owners and deposit of a deposit.
The cottage has a neat and harmonious decoration made from furniture and old objects collected from flea markets in the region. The materials chosen for its realization are natural: wood, lime, earth as well as the products used for the finishes: hard wax oil Biofa or Mauler ...
The comfort of the tenants is assured: dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, small household appliances (toaster, kettle, traditional or piston or Senseo coffee maker, mixer, blender, food processor ...) ceramic, extractor hood ... as well as baby equipment (deckchair, high chair, babycook, bottle warmer, folding bed ...) on request.
The ground floor is completely open and includes a spacious hallway in which to store luggage on arrival, a fitted kitchen (old stoneware sink, Niderviller dishes ...) and a dining area, a lounge / relaxation / dining room old woodwork (an excellent quality sofa bed can easily accommodate two beds). Journals, Alsatian books, various readings, flat screen TV and DVD player available.
A bathroom with walk-in shower, free-standing bathtub and WC is also present.
All the floors on the ground floor are old tiles. Floor heating is provided by a pellet boiler. A wood stove comes in addition to enjoy winter evenings by the fireside: the first basket of wood is offered and the following billed at 5 euros.
Access to the upper floor is via a splendid 'quarter-turn' staircase; its configuration can possibly pose a problem for people with reduced mobility.
The first floor opens onto a relaxation area for children (old 3-seater desk with folding folding seats), an independent WC and 2 bedrooms: 'The Lodge' located on the South side is a master suite with refined decoration which includes a double bed people, a wardrobe and additional storage spaces, a table but also an adjoining bathroom / sink area. Possibility of accessing from this room a room located under the eaves 'La cabane' which can accommodate a bed for a child up to 8/10 years.
'The attic' is the second bedroom which is located to the North; it accommodates two brass beds and has a more mountain and rustic decoration: wardrobe, storage spaces and a table await you. The floors upstairs are old coffered floors.
Heating is provided by radiators connected to the pellet boiler.
Towels and household linen are provided and beds made on arrival. The bedding is of very good quality and the bed linen chosen harmoniously with the two bedrooms which contributes to giving them their own identity.
The comfort of the cottage includes a relaxation area outside: bucolic terrace accessible from a French window located in the kitchen, barbecue, garden furniture, green spaces, bench and deckchairs.
A second relaxation area in the basement hosts table football, a sauna and a shower as well as the laundry room (washing machine and dryer) and the technical room.
Possibility to park a medium-sized vehicle in front of the gîte (parking not covered), additional parking spaces 20m away.
The owners live within - 100m and themselves provide accommodation for holidaymakers (unless previously informed). They make their knowledge and love of their region available to their guests and also offer to visit their animals (donkey, rabbits, chickens, dogs, cats ...)

What Our Guests say 500 + Reviews

Aug 21, 2018 11:44:54 PM
Summary: Yup all those other reviews are right! The love and commitment that have gone into rebuilding this house and making it into a place to really relax and pamper yourself just shine out of every little corner. Our two teenage boys were not impressed when we told them we were going to be staying in a traditional Alsatian house, but they were totally won over as soon as when we got there. Not only was there the 'incontournable' wifi, but also an amazing luxury shower, comfortable beds and the piece de resistance.... a baby foot table. They even appreciated the pretty garden and we actually caught them reading a BOOK!! You can walk straight from the front door out into the surrounding countryside and forest, but 5 minutes drive gets you to a large supermarket. Saverne is really near and Strasbourg isn't too far either. I particularly enjoyed a trip to nearby Marlenheim to celebrate the 'marriage of L'Ami Fritz' - a great excuse to eat and drink too much of the local produce! Thank-you so much Nancy, Franck, Colline, Martin and Jean for all their hard work. They made us very welcome and we will definitely be back!

Summary: The cottage is more a work of art than a holiday gite. Its style captures Alsace's love of wood and tiles, while its amenities are very much of the 21st first century: a nicely equipped kitchen and wonderful bathrooms, comfortable seating, attractive lighting (and for winter even a sauna). It is perfect and spacious for a couple (and a dog in our case) or a couple with two smaller children or a teen. The only issue to note is that the stairs to the bedrooms would not be ideal for anyone with mobility problems. The location is at the edge of a hamlet in lovely rolling countryside with lots of walks from the front door. It benefits from being outside the main tourist areas around the wine villages (which start only a few kilometers away). We liked Saverne (10 min drive) the nearest town of any size and Strasbourg is only 30km away. This was our first visit to the area and it is hard to imagine a better one. You are perfectly placed for touring the region or just staying put and walking in the local area as you wish. There are some perfectly decent places to eat nearby. The greatest charm of the cottage, though, is the warmth of Nancy and Franck, the owners who live a few hundred meters away in their own equally charming house. The welcoming basket of cherries from the garden and homemade jam and apple juice or Nancy appearing with newly laid eggs or freshly baked Alsatian tarts during our stay. They are native to Alsace and love and know the area, so they are a fund of local information about what to see and do or to talk to (while never being intrusive). By the end of two weeks we felt as though we were friends rather than just visitors. For many in the UK, Alsace is an area that somehow is not on many people's radar (we have repeatedly had to try tell various neighbours and friends where it is) and this is a huge shame as it has enormous attractions: stunning scenery and architecture, a fascinating history as a borderland between French and German cultures that has forged something distinctive of its own, friendly people, glorious domestic architecture and in Strasbourg one of Europe's most elegant cities. The food and wine are distinctive and excellent. We had glorious summer weather, but it is easy to see the cottage and area would be lovely in all seasons. We have rented cottages in various countries for 40 years and unhesitatingly put this at the top of any list.

Summary: Enjoyed a wonderful week in Salenthal in probably the most interesting holiday home we've ever stayed in. The house is typical Alsacien and is like stepping back in time, but with modern day conveniences! It is immaculate and we immediately felt at home there. Nancy and her family are lovely and are there to offer help and advice if needed. Very welcoming. The area is a walker's and cyclist's delight. Wildlife abounds. Weather hot and sunny. All in all a fantastic holiday.

Summary: A unique craftsman house in a beautiful setting. Very quiet and located near most points of interest. Our hosts Nancy and Frank are very charming and speak English very well. The house is well equipped, wifi etc. We would recommend this beautiful property to anyone with hesitation. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Summary: We passed a wonderful week in this beautiful old house with so much history and soul in magnificent surroundings. We were welcomed by Nancy and Franck with homemade specialties. They were our warm and caring hosts. We were 6 persons, 3 generations, in the house, and it was a perfect place for all of us. The children played around the house, in the house with lots of toys, in the fields with the cows, and had a ride on the donkey belonging to the family. They also had a good time with Nancy and Francks daughter, the same age as one of our girls. Franck and Nancy were helpful to tell about interesting places to visit including good places for children, that we would not otherwise have found. We all felt very welcome and the meeting and discussions with this warm and engaged family was an extra gift.

Summary: Wonderful. Superb house for anyone but especially those who enjoy historical properties. Beautifully presented. Very well equipped. Spotless. Delightful owners who made us feel really welcome. Excellent area for walking and cycling with castles, canals, cherry orchards, many interesting towns and villages, fine old buildings and Alsace wine. Would highly recommend this lovely house.

Summary: Unbelievable! This place is incredible, we had such a wonderful time. We have discovered our new favorite place to go. The pictures do not do justice to all that this place has to offer. Pictures cannot capture the ambiance of the house or the region. The people were so friendly, and were willing to share the secrets of the Alsace that are not written in the travel books. I only wish that I could rate it with more stars.
