Welcome to our tropical paradise! Our newly renovated property is situated on a 2 acre beach plot facing the Indian Ocean (private property). Ushongo Bay is touristically largely undeveloped idyllic beach (unlike nearby Kenyan coast) Tropical garden dominated by coconut palm trees.
The main house sleeps 5 persons in two large self-contained suites (bedroom plus bathrooms, dressing room). 2 double beds plus 1 large single bed. The separate guest cottage has one bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom, a kitchen and a terrace.
The spacious and airy house sits on an elevated platform and offers great views on the Indian Ocean. The house has been completed in June 2007. Solid stone houses built with local materials (Makuti thatched roof, hardwood/ boatwood furniture & natural stone floors).
It offers comfort and all modern amenities. Private maid is provided. (Second maid in case of 5-7 guests). Daily flights to Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar or Arusha (Safari Airlink, Coastal Air, Air Tanzania), speed boat to Zanzibar or taxi. Check out our website (see below).
Our house has just been completed in June 2007 and is well maintained. It is a solid stone house built with local materials ranging from Makuti thatched roof to hardwood and natural stone floors. Only for the bathrooms and for electricity we have used imported tiles and fittings. The house is spacious and airy (total size 150 m2, 6 metres high ceilings. The furniture are made of Eucalyptus and Mninga wood. Some furniture are made of defunct boats. The house has a large terrace facing the ocean which offers shade throughout the whole day with seating for 16 persons. The house has 2 self-contained bedrooms, each one with a large bathroom. Each of the rooms has one 2x2 metre double bed plus a single bed. The two bedrooms are connecting to a living room and a kitchen separated by a bar. There is also a rear terrace, ideal for sundowners watching the sun set. The kitchen is fully equipped with 2 fridges, one freezer, gas/electric stove, plates and cooking utensils for serious cuisine for larger groups.

Summary: There was no power when we arrived and the generator was not working, but this was resolved two days in and the remainder of the holiday was sublime. The owner very kindly offered us a refund for the issues with the generator. All in all we had a good time.

Summary: A wonderful and spacious place to relax, unwind and enjoy the beach. The beach is right in front of the house. Much more comfort and space than renting a small beach hut at one of the resorts. If you dont feel like cooking, there are multiple restaurants/resorts at the beach to go to. The house help were super friendly, helpful and great hosts. A lot of information about the house and area were provided in advance. We would love to come back here!

Summary: We had a wonderful stay at the house, very much regretting having to leave. The house itself with 2 spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and dressing each, open plan kitchen, built and decorated in the beautiful Swahili coast style is set approx. 30 metres from the beach in a nice garden ensuring absolute privacy. It has a lovely and huge veranda with a comfy sofa where you can take your meals or simply relax. With the house come a housemaid and gardener, both very friendly and helpful, who take care of everyday cleaning inside and outside the house so that you can fully enjoy your stay. The gardener was also helpful to buy vegetables and fresh fish for a barbecue in the garden. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need, there is even a small freezer, and house and garden are well maintained. As Ushongo beach has only a very few lodges, convenient for eating out if you like or meeting people, it is very quiet and especially without the crowd of vendors or motorcycles passing you may find on Zanzibar beaches. Communication with the owner was excellent and we faced no problems before or during our stay. We can recommend the house without any reserve for those who are looking for a relaxing and easy going holiday on the beach in a beautiful environment.

Summary: This is a lovely house on a gorgeous stretch of beach, very peaceful and stress-free. Unlike Zanzibar or Mombasa, Ushongo has not been discovered by many tourists. You can walk along the beach for miles and see only a few local villagers and fishermen. The water is warm and clear, and most of the year is free from seaweed. It is perfect for swimming, body surfing, and sailing. The house itself is open and airy, more than comfortable, extremely clean and has every thing you would need. You may never want to stray from the lovely verandah, however, as it faces the beach and is well shaded by lovely palm and coconut trees. If you choose to have the cook/housekeeper stay with you, you will be in for a treat with great cooking and warm smile. This is a perfect get-away for families, honeymooners, and/or those seeking some quiet time in paradise. The owners will go out of their way to be sure you are happy and have everything you need there. There are all the major appliances you need to prepare all meals, etc. Wonder Swahili-style beds give the place a wonderful, exotic atmosphere. There are a couple of other hotels within 10 and 30 minutes walk, if you want to go to a restaurant or bar. But the best part is there are no "hawkers" walking around trying to sell you something while you are relaxing on the beach or under the palm trees. I would highly recommend staying here for at least 2 weeks. You can come and go easily by plane, to/from Arusha, after a safari.
