Positive: The house, the access road, the pasture, the cows, the neighbours Dirk and Arnoud - there was nothing that wasn't happy, beautiful or helpful. The cows would welcome us daily with stares and moos. Lots of beautiful walks, though there are fewer canals in this area versus the other side of the lake. The patio and living room with the sun streaming through, are beautiful restful, happy places. The piano is exceptional and beautifully tuned. The fireplace works well and easy to light. Though only my daughter met Marijke, the owner, she was helpful on everything and responded immediately (not that we needed much). She introduced us to Arnoud who was kind enough to lend us a bike, and Dirk who showed us around the barn where we met the babies and the mothers (cows of course). She in fact offered us the use of another bedroom but we didn't need it as we were just 2 of us. We really liked the bathroom with a view to the cows, unfortunately now covered with a translucent film. I understand people might not like to have a see-through glass, but I would have loved to see the green and the cows from there too. We would leave the door open through the day. Parking was very easy and we shared it with the neighbours. Kitchen and bathroom are both well equipped. Lots of towels. I missed coffee on day one as I hadn't bought any, else nothing that we lacked. It is a beautiful and positive house, much like home and not shiny metal and glass, and nevertheless with all amenities for comfort.
Negative: Important: some friends found it difficult to find the place, and at night it is pitch dark, so be sure to have the map on you. I personally had no difficulty in reaching. I am a clean freak, and found several places which were not as clean as could be. e.g. to be greeted by a broom and broken dustbin even before entering the house. It threw me a bit but once I realised it is only a thoughtless act, it was ok. The kitchen has some food left over perhaps by other visitors, which in a way is great, but much of it is in the bottles and jars which seemed old so not sure what was what. We didn't use anything either way as were staying long. The lounge chairs on the patio are very comfortable and offer a magnificent calm view, but I didn't use them much as they were not clean. Pity. A vacuum cleaner would be great esp. for longstays. My daughter was rather spooked by several stuffed animals (9/10 approx) in the house. I loved them, so its only FYI. I had to turn the owl sideways to get her to sleep, though we laughed about it. The bedroom is beautiful but a little dark, and if the entire experience had not been so delightful it might have bothered me a little. Maybe just an option for brighter lighting in case someone wants it, especially those who stay fir several days. I couldn't read by the bedside. None of it is a deal breaker as you can see by the rating - would just make it even more beautiful, if that were possible.

Positive: Fantastic location in the heart of lovely Waterland. Easy cycle into Amsterdam. Nearby towns like Monnickendam, Broek and Edam very pretty and interesting. Holysloot and Uitdam also lovely.
Negative: Another couple of pillows possibly. There was a scratching noise in the gable of the bedroom.
Summary: A lovely house, isolated and private yet so close to Amsterdam. Bike round the local area, great.
