Giammengo is a beautifully restored romantic stone property, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms in the cottage, with a further 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom set across the little courtyard 10M from the house. There is a gorgeous pool and outdoor relaxing area.
Set in the depths of the Garfagnana, an hour or so North of Lucca, in a small village with a population of circa 300. There are village and mountain views. This house really is a treat!
Unusually for this area, one can walk to a pizzeria/restaurant (less than a 5 min walk) where one can dine al fresco on the terrace and take in the view, as well as a basic shop/bar, gelateria and butchers. For other facilities the local market town is less than a 10 minute drive away.
This 2 bedroom, 2 shower room village property, along with further bedroom and bathroom across the courtyard has been restored with lots of love and care, and retains its original character, but with the addition of modern shower rooms, beautiful furniture and stunning pool area complete with an outdoor kitchen, and no less than a choice of 3 eating areas, making it an ideal holiday home.
The cottage is tastefully presented, with a wonderful mixture of original flooring, beamed ceilings, chestnut windows, original balconies from bedrooms, blending perfectly with modern fireplace, pristine bathrooms, country kitchen and bang up to date outdoor area with good size modern pool.
This place really is a treat!

Kitchen/diner with oven, hob, microwave, fridge, coffee machine. Double doors leading to outdoor area.
Living area with comfy seating, wood fireplace, TV, WIFI.....
There are beamed ceilings and traditional flooring.
Also on this floor is a shower room.

2 double bedrooms - each with their own balcony featuring village views with mountain backdrop.

All bedrooms have insect screens to take advantage of the beautifully cool mountain air at night. They also have ceiling fans.

Summary: 5 of us had a wonderful stay. The pictures don't do it justice; the views over this beautiful part of Tuscany are amazing and the property / its facilities are superbly designed and finished to a very high quality. The outdoor spaces aren't overlooked at all and the interior provided a welcome relief from the heat. Good walks from the property too. Oh and very few mosquitos! Patricia was at the property during our stay and was very discrete. She booked us into the local restaurant and made excellent recommendations about things to do in the local area. The food and drink (in the supermarkets and restaurants) was consistently excellent quality and low price.

Summary: Patricia and Geir are super-hosts and the house with the pool and the outdoor-kitchen is a dream! Viletta is an cosy small village with a little shop (inklusice a good gelateria). The restaurant "il Grotto" is great. No chi-chi-food, just fine handmade italian food, good wines and a great view over the valley. The area is very hilly and green. There are no busloads of tourists swarming all over the countryside. So you will find a wonderful place for relaxing holidays. You can do some nice trips from Viletta to Lucca, Pisa, Firenze or Cinqueterre - but to the south of the toscany (Siena, San Gimiagno, Bolgehri) you might "endure" some longer rides. But who cares - if the house and the hosts are that good as here. And why travel so far, if you can find nice little towns like Bargha nearby. Thank you for a great time!

Summary: My family of four (2 teen sons) stayed at this beautiful property in June. It is a perfect base for exploring Garfagnana by car and the property is delightful. There are 2 great restaurants within a 3-4 minute walk. The hosts are so welcoming and accomodating; it was a great overall experience. The management company sent great information about the area ahead of time (which was super helpful.) Although a little tricky to initially locate the property, it is easily accessible once you know where you are going. This was our first trip to Tuscany. I hope to stay here (same property) again!

Summary: I would highly recommend this property for a holiday. The property itself was ideal. It was of a very high standard. The location was perfect. We could walk to the local restaurant which had lovely food and friendly staff. There are lots of things to see locally and you could use the train to go further afield. The proprietors were wonderful. They were very informative and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely come back to this villa again. We cannot recommend highly enough Miriam and Charles

Summary: This was a fabulous place in a wonderful location. The house is beautifully decorated with wonderfully fluffy towels in the bathrooms! Everything you might need is in the kitchen. But the real star here, is the pool, terrace, and outside kitchen! Such beautiful views, so relaxing, and the pool was so inviting and refreshing. The area is wonderful and so many things to do from hiking to visiting beautiful towns and villages. Our hosts were incredibly nice and helpful. There are so many wonderful things to say about this place. But to put it very simply: we reccomend this place wholeheartedly!!!!

Summary: The property is a very good standard and was perfect for the two of us. The hosts were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the facilities of the pool and outdoor kitchen/dining which were perfect for taking in the amazing views. We would certainly stay there again.

Summary: Far beyond expectations. We have hired several times before in Tuscany, but this was exceptionally good. So many positive things like: The house itself has a very high standard with a stunning view over the Garfagnana landscape. It is well planned and so well equipped with every thing you need to prepare fantastic meals. Nice beds and linen. Even the tap water was so good to drink. A nice little garden with a pool. A fantastic surprise was the train station 5 min walk from the house, which took us to different places. Also 5 min walk to a local restaurant. We also received a big package of information for exploring the region. Last but not least; we were so warmly welcomed by the owner and had a very fine contact throughout our stay.
