7 Bedroom House in Summit Hill, Saint Paul

Welcome to the "Gatsby Getaway" an extraordinary home where modern amenities meet historical detail! Enjoy bluff views from the gracious front porch, where a young F. Scott Fitzgerald used to visit his friend Sam to plan boyhood adventures, and ride the streetcar to and from downtown St Paul.
The Gatsby Getaway is ideal for large groups or family gatherings: we have hosted and are a perfect spot for family wedding weekends, girlfriend reunions, 70th birthday celebrations, work retreats, and more--see additional rave reviews in photo area. Home is near major roads and a freeway for easy access to area attractions, but is high on the bluff, making it a quiet and serene escape!
-Walk to dining & shops on Selby or Grand; just blocks to the Cathedral and over 30 restaurants and coffee shops, 5 minutes to events at XCel Center and downtown St Paul, 15 minutes from MSP airport, downtown Minneapolis and the convention center!
Your whole group will be comfy in this 5600sf getaway, designed by architect Cass Gilbert, with spaces to both gather or find solitude. Enjoy socializing in the gracious front living spaces, and cooking together in the spacious, open, eat-in kitchen with adjoining 3 season sun room and formal dining. Private library with desk for quiet working space.
Five bedrooms on the second floor, with walk-in closets and plenty of bedding, towels and a free laundry; two bedrooms on third floor, with large TV and entertaining area which includes a full kitchen for an additional apartment-style space.
Fully stocked kitchen with plenty of barware, wine fridge, ice maker, serving pieces and even formal china for 16! Your hosts are right next door for any last minute needs. Please text with any questions!
Guest access: The whole house, from main floor spaces to the top of the turret are yours to explore and enjoy. --Please note the primary bathroom suite's shower is shared by another bathroom - some coordination may be required within your party. And while we painstakingly clean and care for the home from top to bottom, note this home is over 134 years old: though greatly cared for, it may occasionally show its age in a few places. Though we strive for perfection, expect to find some charming patina both inside and outside.
Overall, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time in this hidden gem of a neighborhood, where neighbors wave and gather on front porches to drink coffee or wine, and where kids still run barefoot down the sidewalks, chasing lightning bugs. The historic area itself is just fantastic: Steps to both 599 Summit Ave, where F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote his first novel, "This Side of Paradise," and to the Commodore, where he lived with Zelda and eventually their daughter Scottie: "We got to the Commodore in St. Paul, and while the leaves blew up the street we waited for our children to be born." Saint Paul has the nation's longest stretch of Victorian homes; walks though out the neighborhood during any season are beautiful!
This elegant home is ideal for anyone from couples to a group of 14 to enjoy time together, and especially for lovers of history! The neighborhood is a quiet escape in the middle of the city: to preserve the quiet, neighborhood feel, city rules prevent use of this property for any events or parties: please know to be respectful of our neighbors, unauthorized or unapproved guests or loud parties are cause for eviction.
We welcome you to enjoy a comfortable step back in time in the most beautiful and well appointed short stay in St Paul!

Summary: This property is, in a word, superb (as is the host, Linda!). The house is grand, yet so inviting and comfortable. So many lovely bedrooms and plenty of clean, functional baths -- we were two couples and two singles, and a large golden doodle. We had PLENTY of space without getting underfoot of each other, both upstairs and down. The kitchen is every bit as useful as it is beautiful -- we had no trouble cooking a full Thanksgiving dinner complete with 14lb turkey, two kinds of stuffing, mashed potatoes, mashed rutabagas, and Gulliver's corn (think Oaxacan street corn meets a midwestern casserole). All of this to say, this is a kitchen that can handle some serious cooking! Staying in this house truly makes you feel just like you're a resident of the gorgeous and historic Hill District. Sumptuous woodwork, comfy yet elegant furniture, and thoughtful touches like a Keurig coffee stations on every floor make this place a MUST-STAY in Saint Paul. My family is already talking about coming to stay in the summer so we can enjoy more of the neighborhood by foot in warmer weather. The house lends itself very well the winter, and we'd guess the summer would be lovely too (we didn't use the 3 season room due to the setting in of the winter chill).

Summary: Our stay at this property was nothing short of magical! Stepping into this house felt like entering the world of The Great Gatsby meets Downton Abbey. The opulence and attention to detail in every corner transported us to a bygone era of sophistication and grandeur. The living spaces were breathtaking, with intricate woodwork, vintage-inspired decor, and plush furnishings that made every moment feel luxurious. The dining room, with its stately table and sparkling chandelier, made our dinners unforgettable experiences. The bedrooms were equally impressive—each with its own character, offering both comfort and charm. The host went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect, providing excellent communication throughout. If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind experience filled with elegance, history, and timeless beauty, this property is an absolute must. We can't wait to return!

Summary: We rented this home for our family to gather for our daughter’s St Paul wedding. We enjoyed the beautiful home for our kids and grandkids to be together, as well as our pre wedding photos. The kids enjoyed the top floor space. The wedding photos from the beautiful main floor and pretty grounds promise to be stunning. Communication was easy and prompt. We had everything we needed for a great long weekend. I highly recommend!

Summary: I don't even know where to start...the experience was so amazing, our family is already planning the next visit!! Communication from the very beginning was always prompt and efficient. The host went above and beyond to meet all of our requests and accommodate us when we ran into flight issues, she made it easy to extend our stay an extra day and even provided an extra key when we locked ourselves out on the main event day. The house is already beautiful on the outside but its an absolute dream when you walk in and venture through the 3 floors of carefully decorated and upscale amenities. Every detail is thought out so carefully to make your stay like home. We had a group of 15 and used the dining room for a special dinner night, had a blast in the 3rd floor playroom watching the boxing event, cooked meals and found everything necessary and more. On the day of the wedding, the groom and his groomsmen got ready in the house and we used different areas for beautiful pictures of him and the family. The house is equipped with a bar area and an ice machine with mini fridge. This area came in so handy for the weekend. We stocked up and everyone enjoyed cocktails throughout the weekend. Everyone always had a place for personal space. There are endless sitting areas for alone time. The kitchen is where we gathered and it had plenty of space for the group to enjoy breakfast and meals. There are coffee stations on every floor which was a plus!! Thank you again!!
