The cottage was built around 1850 and was formerly occupied by the local shepherd grazing his sheep on this area of the Mendip Hills. Today the land is grazed by the traditional breeds of Longhorn Cattle and Wiltshire Horn Sheep, well suited to managing the natural grassland on the farm. Cheddar Gorge, Site of Special Scientific Interest, lies to the north of the farm and Mascalls’ Wood, an ancient woodland, lies to the west. Cheddar village and local shops are a distance of about 1 mile from the cottage. Ideal for walkers and close to the Mendip Way.

Summary: This accommodation was perfect for my partner and I who needed to be in Cheddar with our dog for a couple of nights. The accommodation was as pictured, the shower was hot and powerful, the kitchen had 2 electric hob rings/microwave and fridge. All the required utensils for simple cooking, tea, coffee and sugar . Logs for the wood burner were also provided.

Summary: Exactly as described and exactly as other users have set out. Lovely little bolthole at the top of the lane on a farm with a view for days. Simple and effective. Worth going back for Paul andJudy alone, fab hosts. We will be back.

Summary: Excellent secluded spot outside and overlooking Cheddar, out in wide open fields within a minute and up to the gorge in about 15. Rustic, cosy little house with all the essentials and a stocked wood burner. Friendly host and dogs! Also had a small milk in the fridged stocked when we arrived which was a nice touch. 2 single beds might not be up all couples' streets, but well worth it otherwise.

Summary: We enjoyed staying in Paul and Judy’s shepherd hut. It is small and cozy and had everything we needed. The farm is open and has wonderful walking trails up to the top of the hill and over looking the gorge. We saw the cows and sheep Doug had a great visit with Paul, learning about the rare cows and sheep they raise. Be sure to get some local eggs and Jam from the farm- we were sad to realize we could have had fresh eggs after we bought some in town! Highly recommend this as a place to stay and enjoy the Cheddar area!

Summary: Last minute booking, the hosts were great and very responsive to our request to bring 2 dogs. Perfect little cottage for dogs, had all the amenities you need and very well located. The area is very dog friendly and we would not hesitate to return.
