Positive: The location was very good, being only a short walk from the ski slopes and also the stops for the buses to/from Nagano.. Breakfast was very good, with various Japanese and Western choices. Dinner was a very impressive, being a multi-course Japanese banquet each night. It was surprisingly palatable to Western tastes (and more than half the guests were Westerners). Our room with private toilet was clean, quiet and fairly spacious. Like many rooms at the hotel, it did not have a private shower or bath, so we used the (separate male and female) communal Japanese baths in the hotel. There was a large modern lounge/library/photo-gallery area with windows overlooking the slopes, with free tea and coffee as well as wines and local beers for purchase. There was also a pub/tavern on the ground floor. There's a ski/board hire shop on the ground which also does tuning/waxing where we got our skis waxed.
Negative: Although our room was good and the lounge looked recently refurbished, the common hallways etc were a little tired. One piece of advice we'd give to Westerners is to choose your room carefully as to whether it has a private toilet or bath, depending on your preferences.
Summary: We had a great stay and the property was significantly better than we expected.

Positive: We liked the onsen baths, nice Japanese buffet breakfast with western (cereal, toast, and pastry) options, location 2 minutes walk to chairlifts, and Teppa Room! We also enjoyed the kaiseki dinner for my husband's birthday. Ichinose is a good area to stay if you want to try dinners at restaurants outside of your hotel.
Summary: Great location in Ichinose, Shiga Kogen

Positive: Best location to stay in Shiga - middle of ichitose diamond & family slopes. Breakfast was nice. Stuffs could speak English very well.
Negative: It's a ski resort hotel but still I think it was quite expensive. One thing I don't like about the massive ski resorts in Japan is when they are really big, rental shops are operated by local individual owners - and it's hard to expect hight quality equipments around your hotel area.
Summary: Nice stay - very good location

Positive: Fantastic location with ski lift across the road. Had it's own rental shop that offered a discount to hotel guests. Nice public bathing area - pity about the times the bath was tepid rather than hot. Has a coin operated laundry.
Negative: The lack of variety of breakfast and dinner. While including food was good value, there was no option for the dinner, the menu repeated every 4 days and the food was predominately served cold except for the food in the individual cooker. No western option was provided for dinner. Rooms were allocated to set tables so no mixing with other guests and if you didn't come down for dinner by 615pm you got a phone call to your room telling you dinner was served. The dinning area had very strict hours and the staff informed you at 825 am and 725pm that the dinning room was closing. Breakfast had one or two items that changed but again, no options and much of the food was cold - even the french fries served every breakfast. We opted for a standard Japanese room. It was a great size but our view was of the wall of the hotel next door and the futons were hard. No hotel drying room for ski clothing. You had to take your clothes up to your room and turn up the heater - which was very effective. Then turn the heater off and open the window to cool the room down enough to sleep. Heater was VERY noisy during the night.
Summary: Great location and good value for a limited stay but I would not stay there for 2 weeks again.
