Todi House | Charming Medieval House with piano & Big Garden, in idyllic Todi

3 Bedroom House in Todi

This is a fabulous house that dates back to the 13th century, as witnessed by a Romanesque lion's head still in the facade. It has been entirely renovated (with suggestions and designs by the great sculptor Beverly Pepper). It is inside the town walls, about 5 min. walk from the main square, so it is conveniently located in terms of shopping. I mean why come to Italy and isolate yourselves in a rural farmhouse? May as well stay in Palo Alto (they tell me the landscape is very similar). We wanted to enjoy living amongst the Italians and that is why we chose this house. And yet it is very private and quiet because it is flanked by the apse of the church of S. Prassede on the south-west side, and has a 1,200 sq.ft. garden in front. Built on four floors, all the windows on the living room and bedroom levels have great views of the valley below and the Martani mountains directly east. And we have installed a Daikin AC system in all the bedrooms.
Todi is smack in the center of Umbria, one of Italy's most beautiful and artistic regions, so it's not far from any of the other wondrous hill towns in the region. (It is much less touristy than neighboring Tuscany.) Todi has about 9,000 inhabitants, with very little industry and rolling hills and farm land all around. It is set on top of a hill, 480 meters above sea level, and is primarily medieval in its architectural make-up.
Another good reason for being in town, apart from enjoying concerts at the theater, exhibitions, cocktails on the square, is the BEST ICE CREAM in the world (as verified by many of our guests).
Yes, the Bar Pianegiani, a 10-min. walk up the street. We can also help you participate in a cooking class with the chef who will come to the house, cook the meal and serve it to you. Great fun! You will find shelves of guide books and a green folder with lots of suggestions of things to do and places to visit.
Oh yes, the Wi-Fi is free!
Not many properties in Todi with such views and with a 400 sq. meter garden inside the city walls. During the cold months we ask that gas and electricity be reimbursed (as well as wood if any is used in the fireplaces). During summer rentals only the electricity will be charged. Both are metered. The City of Todi levies a tourist tax of €1.5 per person for a maximum of 4 nights. We will collected this at the end of your stay.

Summary: We loved everything about our stay. Todi is a picture perfect hill town with wonderful people and restaurants. The property was a short (but steep) walk to the main piazza where we had great meals and the best gelato just a short stroll down the main shopping road. We were so excited to stay in an 800 year old house. It is a special place and the back patio with its unbelievable view was peaceful and relaxing. We loved returning from our adventures every day to our little slice of heaven. What further sets the experience apart is George, who is the most amazing host we have ever encountered. He is a gem and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. He made a dinner reservation for us the first night and was always available to answer questions or make recommendations. George saved the day when my friend lost her wallet and passport in Assisi. We did not even realize it until the police called George who immediately contacted us and walked us through how to get to the police station to retrieve it. We were so grateful!George also turned us on to Stefano. Stefano took us from and to the airport and rented us a car. Before he brought us to the property that first day he took us to the grocery store (Emi) and helped us get groceries. Stefano showed us all the tricks to shopping like an Italian. We are huge Stefano fans!It was so hard leaving beautiful Umbria but we will be back again. We fell in love with Todi and the whole Green Heart of Italy.

Summary: We’ve always wanted to experience the Italian way of life and spending a month in Todi was the ideal vacation. Away from the crowds, beautiful countryside, friendly people and comfortable living. This house gave us all that…it is an older house but we adjusted very quickly to the ebbs and flows of it. It had everything we needed and was very well maintained.Past reviews mentioned the hill to town, this is not to be underestimated, it’s a hike but you do get used to it and the bonus is you’ll be in great shape.George and his wife were very easy to get along with and very helpful. All in all it was an exceptional experience and recommend it highly.

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay in Todi. Driving in and out of the medieval town was challenging as the roads are very narrow. That said, we visited Assisi, Perugia, Lake Trasimeno, Gubbio, Deruta, Spello, Spoleto, Bevagna, Montefalco, Orvieto and Todi. All located within an hour’s drive. The walk to get to the piazza Popolo in Todi (as mentioned in previous comments) is uphill and is steep. Our group (in our 70s) managed the climb and are stronger for it!

Summary: This is a charming but very old home. It really is medieval with stone walls and floors. Updated bathrooms and kitchen. If you have mobility issues this is not the place for you. Steps to and from the front door and steps throughout the home. The owner was great and communicated well. We loved Todi, great little town and central location for visiting the hill towns. Use Stefano for a rental car.

Summary: If you desire the hill town experience with lots of character in the residence and easy cultural exposure, there couldn't be a much better choice. Having a car gives lots of daily choices, but our favorite spot was camping out in the lovely garden with family and books. Our hosts were anxious to make everything just right! Thank you George and Lynn.

Summary: We were met at the airport by Stephano (connected with him thru George). We also rented a car from Stephano. We had a pleasant drive to Todi and learned some history of the area. when we arrived at the house the cleaning lady was ill so there was a substitute. She may have felt some pressure since we arrived early. Stephan showed us around the house, which is lovely. George was always available for my many questions. George and his wife had everything we needed for our stay in their house or they made sure we would get what we needed. We had 2 couples and the house worked out well for us. The house was in a great location and could walk easily to the town square of course going up inclines and visit the sites of Todi. We would have breakfast every morning at the house and then venture out to another hill town to explore. We would come back to the house in late afternoon and enjoy the use of the patio in backyard and sip on wine, deciding where to go to dinner or have snacks and enjoy the view at the house. My only regret is not seeing George's photographs at a gallery and the Painted House right up the street from George's house. M.A.

Summary: Wonderful warm and welcoming house. We were so lucky to meet the host! The house had no feeling of a commercialized rental- just a home where you belong, everything at your fingertips plus a gorgeous view, that makes you want to stay forever. Thank you again!

Summary: The host was the most communicative that I have ever experienced. He sent informational emails before Check-in, excellent Check-in directions, and checked in with during our stay. A book with recommendations was on hand as was an email sent on arrival with links to suggested places to visit. The house itself is rustic and authentic. The town is beautiful. We had great food, gelato and coffee. With the steep hike up to the piazza and walking the town, the food had no effect on our waistlines. Day trips included a Roman ruin, winery and other small hill top towns. Only caution is the streets are narrow and driving is a challenge.
