Saix House | Chateau Pas de Loup Farmhouse

4 Bedroom House in Saix

Perfectly located for a visit to Centre Parc Bois aux Daims, Bioparc Doue la Fontaine zoo or St Benoir tree park for family outings but also very close to the wonderful Abbaye de Fontevraud, Chateau de Breze or Musee des Blindes for very interesting historical visits.
This picturesque house historically was home to the winemakers for the Chateau, and is situated in its grounds surrounded by vineyards in the beautiful Loire countryside. It is approached by a sweeping alleyway bordered by mature plane trees.
The house is very private and peaceful and is perfect for a holiday exploring this fascinating region of France, Rural yet close enough to the village of Breze where you can find your all-important boulangerie to buy your morning baguettes and croissants, a mini-supermarket for food essentials, a pharmacie, a bar and even a chateau well-worth a visit.
Venturing a bit further afield the larger town of Saumur is only 20 minutes away and has an abundance of interesting shops and wonderful restaurants. A stroll through the Saturday morning market is a must followed perhaps by lunch at the rowdy Bistrot de la Place.
Montsoreau, a short 10 minute drive away, is a wonderful place along the river Loire to enjoy a glass or two. One Sunday a month they also hold the very popular antiques market beside the river.
Perfect for families and groups of friends there is so much to do in the region, from kayaking on the Loire, Centre Parcs, Doue la Fontaine zoo, go-karts, horse-riding and tree top trails at St Benoit to amuse the kids, to chateau visits, wine-tastings, hiking, boat trips, many unusual museums such as the mushroom museum for the adults. There are some lovely walks ( or cycle rides ) from the house through the local vineyards and villages
The house can sleep up to 9 people and there is plenty of space to relax inside and out after a days sightseeing. There is a large sitting room as well as a smaller TV room ( English and French cable TV ) . The spacious eat-in kitchen is well-equipped and leads out to a large courtyard and a lawned area where you can sit and enjoy tasting the local Saumur wines and gastronomic discoveries or cooking al fresco on the BBQ.
We will include a bottle each of Sauvignon Blanc and Cremant from our cellars for our guests and if required you will be able to buy more.
We look forward to welcoming you.

Summary: What a find! Spacious and peaceful, a really comfortable home with extensive grounds and vineyards owned by the adjacent chateau to walk around and explore, including a natural spring that the Greenwich Meridian passes through, a spectacular mile long tree lined driveway, fields with sheep and goats, a pond with ducks and geese (and some fishing for carp), sunflowers, and bizarrely what seems to be a Mirage jet on display by the farmhouse! Our children felt like they had their own farm and forest to explore on foot and by bike and just loved it! The house itself is bigger than in the pictures and has extensive grounds. The 4 bedrooms were all well appointed, with everything brand new, as were bathrooms and kitchen. There were two sitting areas with Freeview TV and super fast Wifi as well. Outside there was plenty of space with table and chairs, sunloungers and Weber BBQ. We loved afternoons drinking a glass of wine in the shade with a vineyard view (they give a couple of bottles of their house wine and you can buy more). Nearby you have all the famous Loire Valley sights. We visited the Abbey in Fontevraud, Chateau de Breze, the market in Montsoreau on the Loire river, and the Troglodyte caves, all less than 15 mins drive away. We did wine tasting nearby and ate at some great restaurants like Pot de Lapin and Tresor Belges (the latter an easy flat cycle for a family, as were numerous other spots). We had great weather, but in our one day of rain, nearby CentreParks takes day visitors and the indoor pool and tube rides were a real hit with the kids, as well as 10 pin bowling and a really nice spa for adults :-). Then there is zip lining in Chinon, which we have been to before but didn't get a chance to get to as there was so much else to do! Knowing this is a new property we wanted to write a review that will do it justice as we really loved it and will definitely come back time and again. A great new find. Modern interior, yet a classic building and surroundings. Clean, super comfortable (amazing beds and couldn't help but notice it's all John Lewis towels and linen), a very helpful booking lady, as well of lots of info booklets to help us plan our stay. But above all the sense of peace and tranquility, yet with everything just a few minutes drive or cycle away, in an amazing location, makes this an absolute gem. Our best family holiday in ages :-). Highly recommend.
