Reviewer Type: Family With Children
Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: Ideal location close to the High Street and River Gardens.
Negative: The house was cold when we arrived and it took a while for the heating to warm through. Although there was a log burner in the lounge, there was no kindling or fire lighters to be able to make a fire.
Summary: Character cottage in central location

Positive: Clean and tidy. Bed linen and towels lovely quality. Easy walk to town as great location. Great feature property. Tastefully decorated and well equipped. Shower was lovely, good pressure and hot water.
Negative: Very poor condition access road. No welcome pack. Its always nice to at least have some sachets of milk for a cuppa when you arrive. Considering cost of this property per night, this was disappointing. Only 1 piece of wood for woodburner. Although it's July the evening was chilly, and we would've lit up on first night had there been more wood.
Summary: Charming cottage

Positive: Location. Garden. Very clean. Nice bedlinen. Boiler warms up quickly
Negative: Reviewers have been complaining regularly about the uncomfortable sofa since 2022. They do have a point; it takes skill to make something quite this bad! Also 1 dining room chairs had a botched repair & a 2nd chair collapsed with someone sitting in it- lucky not to have cracked their head on the dresser or floor. It seemed to have been assembled without any glue. This was clearly dangerous so I tried to contact Sykes Holidays because the next occupants wouldn't know- but their emergency line is a voicemail It's a nice cottage but it does feel as though the conversion job was done a bit on the cheap; plank walls & floorboards with see through gaps, doors with latches that don't shut easily. The house has room for 6 people but the crockery & cutlery is a bit mixed for 4- makes it feel like some of it was nicked from a pub. I think a quick (cheap) trip to IKEA to standardise some of this would give the place a smarter feel. For the price charged I would have expected a dishwasher (again as Reviewers ask)- tbf it's not listed on the inventory. The (cheapish) beds & showers were OK but the bathrooms had minimal shelving & towel racks. Not a lot of room storage but for a couple of nights not really a problem There is coffee & tea there and just a squirt of washing up liquid left. Often the most welcoming cottages might put in milk or even a cheap bottle of wine, a couple of token bits of fruit or a nice loaf as well. I think this would make a great first impression here. But the location is great, it was clean on arrival & the garden is lovely & secure. The WiFi is good (tv a bit hit & miss). The cottage steps are quite steep (liked the auto night light) but be aware that the steep-ish outside road is unadopted & quite heavily pot holed. The nice driveway is good for 1 large car. A 2nd car can be parked on the road. Overall it was pleasant for a weekend break but maybe not longer.

Positive: The location was in a lovely mill town close to peak district. All amenities were close by. The house was well maintained and equipped. Wi-Fi was great. Lovely well-kept garden. Kitchen well-equipped.
Negative: The stairs to bedrooms were narrow and needed care to navigate. It would be good to notify guests that disabled individuals may find access to bedrooms difficult. Parking only available for one car. Street parking is crowded. The house would have benefitted from a dishwasher. The cooking pans were great, but the frying pan has lost non-stick property. A new fry pan was provided but did not work on the induction hob.
Summary: we (two 70 year olds , two children (5 and 11) and a 40 year old with limited mobility were happy.
