This gorgeous 1 bedroom, fully appointed cottage is your perfect home away from home while you explore the Oceanside area of Vancouver Island. Located in the heart of Beautiful Qualicum Beach, the cottage is ideally situated within walking distance of our charming village center, golf courses and our famous sandy beach. For those who seek the solace of our coastal forests Living Columns will be your ideal choice as we are nestled on three sides by the breathtaking and historic Heritage Forest. This protected natural oasis is the perfect place for a morning walk or evening stroll. The cottage derived its name from the famous Naturalist, John Muir who was so enthralled with the giant California Redwoods that he claimed that "they were as breathtaking and inspiring as any European Cathedral", referring to them as "living columns". I could not agree more.
Living Columns is located on our property and perched on an ancient ravine that is home to Western red cedar and Douglas fir, some as old as 800 years. Meandering through these giants is lovely Beach Creek a critical habitat for Salmon and many woodland creatures. Your private deck offers brilliant morning light and intimate evening shade with comfortable, oversize furniture and a cozy fire table to welcome you home after your adventures.
I am very proud to use all natural cleaning products to ensure that your stay is safe as well as feeling good that the environment is being protected. Respect for the natural environment is important to us as I want to leave a legacy for future generations. You can be rest assured that all Covid protocols are being followed in our maintaining and management of Living Columns.

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay and felt comfortable. One thing guests might want to do, and I would do if I stay again, is find parking away from trees and sap. Our vehicle had quite a bit of sap all over it as a result of being parked under the huge trees in front of the cottage. I didn’t think to park anywhere but where the designated parking is, but am sure Dana would have acclimated had I asked.

Summary: This is such a relaxing and beautiful location for this cottage - right in the heart of the Heritage Forest! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome and the host, Dana, came by to check that everything was to our satisfaction. The cottage was super cosy with a feature fireplace and wonderful decor throughout. It was fully equipped with everything needed plus extra items like beach towels, beach chairs, and even a picnic backpack! We hope to go back again!

Summary: I was looking for a cozy accommodation for 3 nights as a little getaway from Vancouver. This place did not disappoint one bit. Close to the Qualicum Beach airport, walking distance to the Fern + Cedar Brewery, the city center, the beach, and just steps from walking trails in the forest, this home away from home was everything we needed and more. It's easy to take the #91 Intercity bus to Parksville which we did, 2 days in a row, one day specifically to pick up a rental car. Easy peasy. Dana, the owner, stopped by to welcome us one lovely evening as we were enjoying sitting outdoors, and provided us lots of helpful tips. Dana, you're doing a wonderful job providing such a welcoming space... Thanks for everything! :)

Summary: Dana and Jeff were great hosts. They had great suggestions for cafes and coffee places . Living Columns cottage is nestled in the trees making it a peaceful and serene place. We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage has been decorated so lovely . We were welcomed with a bottle of wine ! We didn't want to leave. We hope to come back .
