IMPORTANT NOTE: Bookings for group sizes up to 11 have use of the main house only. The main house has 1 bathroom and beds for 9 and a floor mattress for 2. Bookings for 12 people plus have the sleepout included in their booking. If you would like to include the sleepout in your booking you need to book for 12 plus people.
Bookings for 12 - 15 people have use of the main house and the sleep-out. The sleep-out includes a double bed, bunk beds and also has a bathroom with toilet and shower.
If you are looking for a good old fashioned kiwi bach holiday with friends and family then Whare Pūkeko at Hōkio Beach could be just right for you. Family friendly, relaxed and rustic batch living with lots of room to spend quality time with friends and whānau. As one of our guests mentioned it might not be flash, and you wouldn't expect that in a traditional kiwi bach anyway, but "it's comfortable, homely and very well set up". A simple home that works well for both big and small groups and when you arrive all the beds are already made for you so you don't have to worry about bringing your own sheets. With a well fenced front garden with room to play and gates at the front of the driveway to help make this a safe spot for kids. The area between the house and sleepout is also fenced so this provides an extra play space with great afternoon sun or perhaps a fenced run for your pet dog. We are most often booked by large groups of extended family and⁷ friends or 2 to 3 families who enjoy holidaying together. Our price structure makes for an affordable holiday for large groups or for a small family. We also welcome sports teams competing in tournaments often held in nearby Levin.
The open plan lounge, kitchen and dining room opens up through french doors to a wrap around verandah and a fully fenced front lawn with a large picnic table. Here you can relax in the sun all day long. There are lots of outdoor games and activities that you are welcome to use as well as a stack of boogie boards in the shed. The living areas have the advantage of large sliding doors between the dining room and the lounge so you can play a noisy card or board game at the dining room table while others are relaxing or talking in the lounge. There is a wood burner in the lounge and firewood is supplied for winter stays. There is also a gas heater and a couple of oil filled heaters.
Hōkio Beach has a wonderfully remote feel and fishing and pipi gathering are popular activities here. Often you will have the beach to yourself and there is lots of room to find a place just for you. Enjoy a pleasant walk following the Hokio Stream from the bridge down to the sea and kids will have a ball playing in the sand dunes.
You can walk along the beach for miles and on your way, you might find a driftwood house or perhaps build your own. Switch off from your busy life and take a deep breath of fresh Hōkio sea air.
