Bring friends or family to stay in this 3 bedroom, 2 storey classic beachfront kiwi bach that's just a few minutes walk from the water's edge. It's well-equipped with all you need for a fantastic holiday, and there's a playground over the road which also has a half basketball court - perfect for shooting hoops. There's plenty of room for larger groups and it's cosy enough for smaller groups too. Hokio Beach is a really special place - quiet and laid back, perfect for a relaxing holiday.
Fill your days with swimming, fishing, gathering tuatua, whitebaiting when in season, and kayaking or playing table tennis, cricket, swingball, volleyball, or 'pitch-n-putt' golf on the lawn or shooting hoops at the park (all equipment and balls supplied) - or simply explore with beach and bush walks. Alternately, relax on the deck and soak up the sun and peace and quiet. In the evenings, crank up the BBQ while playing darts, and enjoy the sunset.
For the colder months, there's a wood burner in the living area (firewood is supplied) - and oil heaters in each of the bedrooms, and in the living area also.
Explore the fantastic Horowhenua region including the Papaitonga Scenic Reserve, Tararua Forest Park and other walking and tramping tracks, other nearby beaches, and the local golf course which is just down the road. The closest town, Levin, is less than 10 minutes away and has restaurants, pubs, cinema complex, aquatic centre, and Adventure Park - a fantastic playground for all ages. Make sure you also check out the Otaki outlet stores for a holiday bargain. There are even a few wineries in the region which are open daily.
The beach house has a fully equipped kitchen. Also available for use are a gazebo, indoor bowls, skateboards, tennis rackets, petanque, books, DVDs, cards, and board games, as well as freeview and a few SKY TV channels (or bring your own SKY card for more).

Summary: This batch is very homely and is a lovely relaxing place to be. A leisurely walk to the beach, with lots going on.Our stay was very relaxing and evrything that we needed was there. We would certainly book again as a great place to just wind down.

Summary: The stay was 9 mins drive from Levin and suited our needs for the sports tournament we were at. The owner was very hospitable and Place was very clean and ideal for our visit.

Summary: Advertised as 4 bedrooms. Actually 3 plus bed in lounge. Windows painted shut in most rooms. No firewood. However. We had a fabulous stay as the lounge was drenched in sunlight and kitchen was crammed with implements…but not a corkscrew.

Summary: We had a great time here, it has lovely views & is next to the beach access. There's a playground 100m away that you can monitor from the lounge. You can walk/drive onto the beach. It's about a 3km walk along the beach to Waitarere if you fancy that. And 10 mins drive to Levin with the great waterslide, playground, cinema and shops. There's a well curated selection of DVDs and games. There was also beach stuff in the garage that we didn't use. Hokio has a lovely community feel. Most friends we mentioned it to in Wgtn hadn't heard of it. The bach is split across 3 levels with the middle level being mezzanine. The top level has the kitchen/dining area/lounge and a woodburner and outside deck. The middle level has 2 bedrooms & toilet/bathroom. On the ground level there's a bedroom & garage. We got extra firewood from the owner who was very friendly and helpful. We also used the outdoor firepit to toast marshmallows for the kids which they loved. There's wifi, we found the wifi repeater (plugged into the multibox behind the tv) needed to be put on the window sill above the tv. Window sill speed was 30-40Mbps, behind the tv was 2Mbps. I think the internet connection is shared from the neighbour's home and when they were streaming it became rather slow. A powerline internet extender from PBTech or elsewhere would likely stop this slowness issue. Worth being aware of if you're planning on working remotely from the bach. Vodafone signal wasn't strong enough for net use.

Summary: Wonderful family bach with plenty of room and plenty to do. The locals were lovely and helpful, I forgot to take some oil and they were happy to lend me some. The beach being on the doorstep was just fantastic. It was a little cold to swim but a quick trip into Levin pools got that out of the kids system and there’s a hydro slide. Stunning sunsets just topped the trip off. There was a bit of car activity on our last night there, not sure what they were up to but we felt safe. We will definitely return in the summer, so we can enjoy the surf.

Summary: We had 2 families that was made up of 4 adults and kids ranging 0-10. It was perfect, the location was amazing and the room layout worked very well for the kids and their sleeping. Such a lovely serene village Hokio is and we are so happy we got to experience the quiet simplicity of it. Helen was fantastic and the bach is so well equipped we definitely overpacked as she has everything we needed. We loved it and will definitely be back.
