The large dining table offers ample room to serve up a feast for all the family, and is easily accessible from the kitchen.
Being in a modern country style with the work surfaces finished in local green slate, the generously sized kitchen is very well-equipped. There are two sets of wooden table and chairs to seat four and two respectively, offering the opportunity to dine al fresco in the summer months.
A natural stream known as Chaplin’s Beck flows through the garden, often complete with ducks paddling along, giving the house its’ name. There are also beautiful planters and borders, making it a colourful and pretty place to sit and soak in the views whilst listening to the murmur of the water.
Please note that the garden is not enclosed from the road nor the stream, and as such children must be closely supervised at all times.
The village of Braithwaite offers many amenities, including a local shop, a tea room, excellent pubs, and multiple glorious valley walks right from the doorstep.

Summary: This was our second time at The Duck House and we’ll definitely be back. It’s idyllic to have breakfast at the dining table and watch that garden birds outsidesit in the sunroom and listen to the pheasant calling outside. The village is lovely and it’s so easy to pop out to the shop, for a walkto one of the nearby restaurants. All three of us love coming here. It feels so homely. It’s exceptionally clean, yet cosy. It is well set up for families and Mary goes above and beyond to ensure guests are well catered for. I also appreciate the detailed instructions left around the house which take away any uncertainty. A boring point, but I was thrilled how quiet the washing machine was in its cupboard. We could use it overnight with no disturbance! I can’t think of any improvements!

Summary: I was delighted by the location at the edge of the village. Braithwaite is a beautiful place to be based with access to many different places. The quiet darkness provides ideal sleeping, especially after walking in the fells. Could there be a discount for a single occupant?

Summary: What a wonderful house in a beautiful area! The house is well laid out, so modern and clean and clearly very well kept. It was well set up for visiting with a toddler and we really appreciated the use of the travel cot and high chair. This is a great base from which to explore Keswick and the wider Lake District area. We immediately felt at home and look forward to visiting again in the future.

Summary: Great location on edge of fells & village peaceful equipped with everything you could want & very modern & ‘high end’ decent WiFi, parking nice touches like soap & a starter pack for hot drinks. Beautiful birds at the feeders. Friendly, helpful caretaker. Would definitely return. Thank you! The skylight in the master bedroom isn’t a good idea as you wake at dawn needs a cover for those of us who like dark bedrooms!

Summary: Second visit to the Duck House. It is a large, bright bungalow with a conservatory and parking, situated in a lovely spot in Braithwaite. Everything you could want has been catered for to start your holiday. Braithwaite is a lovely village with a small shop and 2 coffee shops (and pub) you can be in relative peace and quiet, but close enough to Keswick to walk in to all that it has to offer. At certain times, Braithwaite is busy with cars going through and lots of walkers. Lovely to have wonderful walks from your doorstep. Mary, the owner, is very friendly and lives nearby. She comes and fills up the bird feeders regularly. A lovely array of birds come to feed, including 2 ducks! We would suggest taking a cable to connect your laptop to the TV, so that you can watch netflix, bbciplayer etc, as the TV is not the most modern in terms of channels. Other than that, no improvements required.
