Le gîte du Chaland is a 15th century town house, it is located on the Ile d'Or, opposite the Chateau d'Amboise. From the terrace you can see the half-timbered facade. The house is on 3 levels; On the 1st floor, you access the terrace and the living room. The terrace is equipped with a BBQ and a table and chairs for 8 people. The main room consists of an equipped kitchen (oven, induction hob, microwave, coffee maker, Nespresso coffee maker, kettle, toaster), open to the dining room and living room. On the 2nd floor, you will find 2 bedrooms (1 bedroom: 1 double bed and 1 bedroom: 1 pull-out bed + 1 bunk bed) and a bathroom with 120x80 shower and separate WC. The master suite (bedroom with queen-size bed and adjoining bathroom) is on the 3rd floor. The Ile d'Or is a haven of peace, it is the countryside in the city, you will find there a municipal swimming pool (open only July-August), a sports course, a mini golf, a base of canoes allowing to do the descent of the Loire and a cocktail bar with one of the most beautiful terrace of Amboise with its magnificent view of the Loire and the castle. Crossing the bridge you will find various shops and restaurants. The chateau as well as Clos Lucé (the last home of Leonardo da Vinci) and Chateau Gaillard are a 15-minute walk away; The Loire bike tour runs across the bridge as well as the historic heart of Amboise. On Sunday morning, you can stroll through the market (the largest in the region). At the Gîte du Chaland, you will be 25 minutes from Chenonceau, 45 minutes from the Beauval zoo and 1 hour from Chambord; you will also be only 20 minutes from the tasting cellars of Montlouis and Vouvray. There are several free car parks on the island to park. In short everything to have a good stay in Touraine.

Summary: We loved our stay. The home is very nicely located and the our hosts were very helpful with check-in and check-out. The home had everything we needed for our stay and the historic character of the building was wonderful.

Summary: Roomy well located apartment close to good boulangerie and old downtown Amboise. Staircase to bedrooms are steep but we found them easily manageable.

Summary: This was a marvellous place to stay. 16th century features including a winding wooden staircase. Generous big rooms. Good little kitchen, open plan with a lovely living area. A nice shady terrace. Pretty streets around, and very close is the classic view across the Loire of the chateau. 5 minutes walk takes you into the town centre, via a beautiful bridge crossing. It was easy to reach the great sights of the Loire from here: Chenonceux 25 mins, Chambord 55; and there were hosts of other lovely places. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you very much to the delightful hosts!

Summary: Apartment is on three levels - first floor is up one spiral staircase from the street entrance, two bedrooms are up one floor and the third bedroom was on the top floor. The apartment was beautifully restored, plenty of space, well-equipped, outdoor seating area was delightful, bathrooms were huge, parking was nearby and easy to access. The walk to Amboise center was short and fun. I wasn't sure about staying on the island but it was a great location, and much easier to get to by car than in town. There's a cute restaurant around the corner from the apartment for drinks and dinner watching the river, town and chateau. The host was prompt and clear in her communication. Would completely recommend this for a visit to Amboise.

Summary: We loved our time at this gite in Amboise. It was comfortable and in a quiet but central location. We appreciated being in a peaceful neighbourhood away from the tourist crowds but had only to walk across the bridge to be in the centre of Amboise. We found the apartment comfortable and well appointed. Having both a washer and dryer was a bonus. Communication with the owners was excellent and timely. We appreciated their recommendations about local sights and restaurants. The outdoor area was great, however, we were only able to enjoy it on the first night due to the weather. We would highly recommend this accommodation.
