Grade 2 Listed Stone Cottage, situated in the heart of the historic village of Alton in the Staffordshire Moorlands, close to Dimmingsdale and ideal for those wishing to explore the Churnet Valley and the Staffordshire Way, which routes through the village. Close proximity to the Peak District National Park which offers breath-taking views and fantastic opportunities for pastimes such as cycling, walking and visiting the picturesque market towns of Ashbourne and Leek, making this an ideal base. The property is also enhanced with 'super fast' free wifi for the convenience of our guests.
This delightful cosy, two bedroomed cottage, which sleeps a maximum of 3, is situated in the heart of this beautiful village and within an easy walk to all amenities, including its many pubs, restaurants, tearoom and shops. This beautiful cottage is well-appointed throughout and has a fitted kitchen, with ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine and all utensils with an external door leading to an enclosed patio, with table and chairs. The patio occupies a sunny position with lovely countryside views. Beyond is a pretty terraced cottage garden with off road parking for one vehicle . The cosy sitting room has a wood burning stove (for use during winter months only), TV and DVD Player as well as a selection of books and maps to help you make the most of your stay.
Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms (one double and one single) both sympathetically and tastefully furnished. The double has delightful countryside views from the rear window and both bedrooms have windows to the front with views of the lane leading to the centre of the village and the Round House lock-up, built in 1830. The bathroom is fitted with a free standing walk-in shower.
This is a strictly non-smoking property. Subject to prior agreement with the owners, small well behaved dogs are welcome.
We pride ourselves in ensuring that the cottage is clean and beautifully presented for our incoming guests. We would very much appreciate you taking care of our much loved cottage during your stay and leaving it as you found it.
Unreserved parking is available on the lane at the front of the cottage and a designated single parking space is available at the rear of the cottage at the bottom of the terraced garden. This is accessible off a private road behind the cottage (accessible from Knight Lane). Please note that unfortunately BBQs are not permitted.

Summary: The cottage was exactly what I was expecting and was reflective of the pictures. I appreciated how kind and descriptive the host was with the check in process and where everything was located. The cottage is only 5 mins away from Alton Towers (which was the main reason we picked this spot) and in a lovely little town only a few mins walk from a grocery store. My only comment would be that the wifi was a bit unreliable.

Summary: Beautiful cottage It was our second stay for my husband and I. Such a beautiful, clean cottage in a lovely village. Just what my husband and I needed a relaxing weekend. Owners responded so quickly to our emails. We booked a table at the bulls head, it was Greek night, nice food. We also visited Rambler's Retreat for breakfast which was very different. Thank you.

Summary: Great place to stay for two single ladies and their two dogs. Very well equipped for humans and dogs and a good location. The Bulls Head pub was a short walk away and served great food and welcomed dogs too. We dodged the showers and had a lovely break.

Summary: We stayed here for 2 nights, the property was welcoming and spotlessly clean. It had all amenities you could ask for in the kitchen and more. The view from the garden terrace and kitchen were amazing and relaxing. The cottage overall was very traditional, but with a slight modern twist, tastefully decorated, it made you feel right at home . The only negative we could find was perhaps the sofa in the lounge was maybe ready for a replacement due to not much support in seating. 2 to 3 miles away there is Churnet Valley which was excellent for walking in all directions with stunning views a must for all walkers. Alton area is just minutes away from views, walks, dog friendly pubs and good eating establishments. I would definitely recommend.

Summary: Exactly the sort of property for a short break. Great to have the patio for friends to join us for breakfast or evening meal. The only problem has been the local roads with no pavement and often crazy drivers. Alton needs speed bumps and controlled crossings. Obviously not in the owners power!

Summary: Lovely cottage with a great breakfast view. Really well equipped - everything we needed, communication from the hosts was great. Stayed 2 nights to break our journey home from our main holiday. Went for a couple of walks at Dimmingsdale and enjoyed super food at the Rambler’s Retreat.
