Summary: We recently stayed in Branchfield House (July 2021). We were 3 adults, two teenagers and two kids under eight and all fitted in comfortably. Its a really beautiful home in a lovely part of the country which feels psychologically like you are (wonderfully) isolated but in reality its a quick drive to Sligo town, Ballymote is a great wee town (10 mins drive) with a great grocery store, the beach is 20 mins and indeed we took a road trip down to Galway. The House is really immaculate - the pictures are an accurate reflection for once ! My sister is a neatness/clean freak but even she was blown away by how spotless the place is. The owners Robert and Carmen could not have been more welcoming and hospitable. While they live on the adjoining property they were completely unobtrusive and chilled as our kids played on the beautiful gardens - including football by the greenhouse ! Carmen even posted us a left behind Tiara belonging to our daughter. At night we lit the fire pit in the garden and ate from the bbq and then if the temperatures dropped, lit the stove in the living room. We also had fresh eggs in the morning from the hens (and ducks) and access to the strawberries, herbs and lots of other good stuff from the greenhouse. The kitchen is gorgeous and wonderfully well stocked. For a family like ours, a microwave would have useful for warming up kids cereals and the like but its absence was fairly inconsequential in the end given how fab everything was. My wife, sister and the teenage girls all took Carmen up on her sea-weed baths, massages etc offer and loved them. In sum, this is a really class stone house designed and built by Robert himself, great location to get away from it all and the owners were really lovely people. We will be back. Summary: Robert and Carmen could not have been more welcoming to our large family. They had thought about the best room for my elderly parents and made up the family room for all the girls including a snug corner for them to sit and chat. They had bought us breakfast and provided all sorts of extras. The house is beautifully decorated with a fully stocked kitchen (we cooked for 11 people easily), fluffy towels and bathrobes, eco bath products, games in the cupboards, rugs for sitting outside and ‘crocs’ to pop on your feet tucked outside the door above the cut logs (for the wood burning stove) if you want to nip outside into the immaculate garden and see the hens and their lovely white cat. We read books, cooked and chatted and couldn’t have had a nicer time. Thoroughly recommended by this family celebrating an 80th birthday together. Thank you to Robert and Carmen for making it so special.
