Positive: I loved the location right in the center of Rapid City and the fact that the Alex Johnson is an historic hotel made my stay very special. Also, Cynthia, at the front desk was GREAT, VERY HELPFUL!
Negative: The room smelled a little like cigarette smoke and I think it was the carpeting or AC. The hotel offered a deep cleaning free of charge and I was told the rooms are about to be renovated with hardwood flooring.
Summary: My stay at the Alex Johnson Hotel was Excellent and I'll recommend the hotel to family and friends.

Positive: Had a great view on 9th floor. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. they let us check in early! Nice vibe.
Negative: Parking is tough. Plus loiters near hotel made us uncomfortable. Especially when we had to leave at 4:30 AM and 4 loiters (adult men around 30 to 40 years old) were just hanging near hotel.
Summary: Great old hotel downtown close to everything.
