Summary: We usually tent camp, so this was a huge upgrade for us. This cabin is in the middle of nowhere, with a short river hike near by. This is not a property that you can enjoy with out a little work. You’ll need to bring your own water, we couldn’t get the propane heater to work so we needed to use wood, which getting the temperature just right takes a little finesse , but also adds to the excitement that you’re really off the grid. It rained the whole time we were up there, so we sat in the cabin listen to the rain and played games. We had a blast! it’s not a vacation for everyone but it’s all a matter of perspective. If your looking to get away, to be secluded with nature and silence, this is the place for you.

Summary: You can’t beat a roof/home base up here in the Keewanaw. Not to mention one with a beautiful River, and woods, surrounding it. Making the trek up and down to the falls is 100% worth it. It’s incredible, serene, and a conglomerate of beautiful things!!!! Rain water was a bust, and could not charge phones. All okay, don’t need phones, and had drinking water :) Can’t wait to return to the little cabin in the woods.

Summary: The directions are a bit sketchy and the road you take off the main road is very narrow and if it's muddy then you are not going in. The water is not that easy to find to go to. It's a bit of a hike! The rain barrel is cracked and looks like it been broken for a long time. The key and bedding pick up Is interesting. The bedding was at the ice cream window and the employee was on break so we had to wait...couldn't even wait with an ice cream in hand.

Summary: This cabin and the surrounding property exceeded my expectations! The only negative was the narrow and bumpy road to get in, but I had read the other reviews and was prepared for it. My SUV handled it without issue. The cabin itself was as clean as one can expect a cabin in the woods to be, and the bed was very comfortable. Instructions for using the composting toilet were clear and easy to understand. I enjoyed exploring the land and trail along the river as well as the surrounding beauty of the Keweenaw Peninsula. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an opportunity to get away from the chaos of life and spend time immersing themselves in nature. I would definitely return!

Summary: Loved how very secluded in nature this spot is. The walk to the river was gorgeous as well. The road to the cabin is rough, even when there’s no snow. If you don’t have all wheel drive, I’d plan to just hoof it in. Also, it would be way easier if the lockbox for the key were at the cabin. Instead of having to find it in town. That turned out to be a bit of a scavenger hunt😆

Summary: First and foremost, this is an absolutely gorgeous area. I went in January when the area had already seen 174” of snow. Needless to say, it wasn’t an *easy* vacation, but absolutely worth it. As long as you set your expectations properly you will have a fun and rejuvenating stay. To help with those expectations I’ve added some thoughts below. Advice for winter visitors, in no particular order: It’s best to have all wheel drive, and definitely bring a shovel. You have to park on the side of the road, and because I was concerned about snowplows winging my car I dug out a spot into the snowbank (I don’t think this is necessary though, the snow plows seemed well-controlled. Definitely bring a shovel though. You will need either snowshoes or backcountry xc skis. I had snowshoes and wouldn’t have been able to explore the great forest without them. Bring a sled to pul behind you. I forgot mine and had to do a lot more trips on the 1/2mile trail between car and cabin. Over three nights and three days I used about 7.5 bags of the wood provided (the propane heater was broken, tho the gas stove still worked). The wood stove produces plenty of heat, but was a little smoky whenever I opened the door to check the fire. Definitely advisable to get there in the daylight so you can figure out proper operation before dark. In particular, make sure the ash drawer is emptied and the flue is open. There was plenty of cell service on Verizon. There was not electricity until the last day, because the constant snowfall kept the solar panel pretty well covered. Plan accordingly. You can find a good contour map of the area if you google “ Free Keweenaw CounTy”, I suggest printing that and bringing along a compass if you want to explore the woods. You’ll need to compare the property boundary lines with the maps on the Keweenaw Natural Areas website though. It’s best to think of this trip as the most comfortable remote camping you’ve ever done, rather than expecting it to be like a hotel. Part of that is abiding by the Leave NoTrace ethos, and making sure to be responsible for your own trash and clean up. From my understanding this land was purchased by a group of people who wanted to preserve the natural beauty of the area for public use, so it’s not a business, it’s entirely volunteer-run. it’s pretty cool that something like that is possible, and it was nice to contribute to its continued existence.

Summary: Overall I had a great time! The site and the snowshoe out to it were both beautiful. The propane heater was not working (I was warned before booking) but the wood stove was more than sufficient to keep the cabin comfortably warm. I saw some other reviews complaining about a smell from the toilet, but I didn't notice any unpleasant smell. The only real problem I had with my stay was that I had to leave at the end of it!
