Positive: Unbelievable view and beautiful modern space with and artists touch! Best nights of sleep in a month, comfortable bed, clean and spacious room, hot showers, great food and company from Mario - and the view is absolutely unbelievable. Mario helped me arrange transportation and site seeing. The waterfall walk is literally out the front door. I had a n amazing day of bird watching with Jhon (Mario arranged) 100% 10/10 recommend that as well! The village is lovely and quiet, the hummingbird refuge is outstanding.

Negative: Nothing- it’s incredible- I recommend 1000%

Summary: Honestly, I can’t believe I was lucky enough to find this gem.

Positive: Mario couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. We were met at the start of the Paseo a Gocta, also the path to Casa de Mario, where our bags were wheelbarrowed up the la Casa. Mario greeted us there and served us an exquisite pizza for dinner. We were so impressed that we continued to dine on Mario's cooking the following two nights as well. We enjoyed being entertained by the antics of Camote (17 year-old foundling who landed very well) and Aussie (14 month old puppy who is insatiably playful) while dining or breakfasting there. Morning yoga with a view of Catarata Gocta and Aussie, with intermittent sightings of Emeralds and Wood Nymph hummingbirds, various seedeaters, the song of the Buff-breasted Wren, and the Rufus-crowned Peppershrike I finally got to see before we left. The view of the falls may be unparalleled and the privacy is a delight. The Casa's proximity to the Refugio de Colibri is too good to be true. It's a rare and wonderful opportunity to see the Marvelous Spatulata and several other species of hummingbirds up close. Within a day and a half we had seen out two target species: The Spatulata and Gallito de las rocas. Amazing. Jhon Alva provided exceptional guiding, introducing us not only to an array of migrant and endemic bird species, but also to cultural history made much more accessible and interesting from a local's perspective.

Negative: Having more time there - seriously

Summary: Casa de Mario is a diamond in a field of emeralds. When in Cocachimba, you want to be here.

Positive: Great place to leave for Gocta in the morning, you can have the place completely to yourself if you leave early from here. A view to the waterfalls from the room and from the terrace and tiny humming birds flying around. And best of all Mario is a fantastic host and storyteller. Excellent value for money!

Positive: Stunning location with the best view on the Waterfall Gocta. Mario was a loveley host. He even offered us a stunning hike to the upper part of the waterfall. Everything in the Hotel is made with love, from the cosy room to the breakfast. We are sad that its time to leave now. I would recommend the place to everyone!

Positive: We had a wonderful experience staying at Casa de Mario. The location is perfect, right on the hiking trail to Gocta waterfall, with a beautiful view of the falls from the property. The village is quiet and peaceful, surrounded by nature. Mario is an exceptional host — he knows everything about the area and made us feel completely at home. He even made us a delicious homemade pizza with a purple corn crust — everything organic and full of flavor. We saw hummingbirds in the garden and many other beautiful birds around the property. It’s a great spot for bird lovers and nature lovers in general. If you’re coming to Cocachimba, don’t hesitate — Casa de Mario is the perfect place to stay!

Positive: La Casa de Mario was perfectly located right next to the Gocta Waterfall trail. The accommodations were clean and adequate. Our family and friends spent a wonderful long weekend hiking and exploring the local area. Mario was a wonderful host who helped us plan our days and schedule transportation. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable, and he also made us some delicious pizzas and hamburgers for dinner. I highly recommend his place.

Positive: Mario was great! He cooked a great pizza, burgers and also prepared an amazing breakfast! The lodge rooms were very clean, spacious and each had amazing views of Gocta waterfall. The trailhead to Gocta waterfall was located immediately outside the Casa de Mario door. Mario was instrumental in locating excellent drivers and an English speaking guide! La Casa de Mario enhanced our Chachapoyas experience!

Summary: Overall excellent value of accommodations, food and location for the price with an amazing host.

Positive: The location must be one of the best in Peru. In our room, we could open the door, lie in bed and look out onto the Gocta Falls, the entire valley and listen to the birds singing in the Cloud Forest. The host, Mario, is an amazingly friendly and helpful man, great to talk to and extremely helpful. Not to mention, a great cook as well! His pizzas are world class!
