Positive: The accommodation is simple but perfect for the location. The lake and the views were exceptional and real balm to the soul. Because we came from Matamata, our journey around the north of Lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti was quite long so it came as a total surprise to find how close Otakaina was when we went via TeNgae, with Lake Otakaina actually only 10 minutes off SH30. Bar menu was short but more than adequate. Staff were friendly and helpful. I only wish we had stayed longer.

Positive: Super friendly and helpful staff who were really kind in accommodating check in requests and some of our needs due to travelling with younger children. The property is directly on a beautiful lake and is off-grid and in nature. Facilities at the property were good, including a great, piping hot powerful shower. The property can help organise activities on the lake.
Negative: If you are travelling to this region to explore Rotorua, the property is located quite a distance away (this was our fault for not researching travel times/distances well enough beforehand). Many of the most popular tourist activities and sights are about a 35-50 minute drive away from the property. Again - want to emphasise that this is obviously not the property's fault - we loved our stay and the place - but it is worth knowing if you are planning to use it as a base for exploring Rotorua.

Positive: Super quiet and very scenic location. Nice bed and a decent sized room.
Negative: It was clean and comfortable but a little dated. It's a bit of a haul from town, I probably wouldn't have stayed here if I had realised how far it was but that's my fault. It may be just what some people want.
