4 Bedroom House in Montreat, Black Mountain

LaMotte Cottage has been in the LaMotte family since 1939. Originally built in 1917, it is now over 100 years old, with the history and charm that only comes with a century of good memories being created there. The front porch is great for watching the hummingbirds, and the large side deck can easily accommodate a pretty large group of friends. Nestled in the rhododendrons, and therefore shady and cool in the summer, the house is heated with a wood stove and small space heaters, should you need them. In the summer, it is cooled — quite effectively — by open windows, electric fans and shady trees. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and a bathroom with a shower. One bedroom has a double bed, the second has a double and a single, and the third has two singles. Downstairs, the living room/dining room, kitchen, porch, deck, one bedroom, and one bathroom with the original claw foot bathtub (deep and luxurious, in an old school, really old school, way!). The kitchen is well-outfitted, with oven, stove, microwave, drip coffeemaker, etc. LaMotte Cottage is the kind of place that invites long evenings of good conversation, jigsaw puzzles, and a glass of wine. It also has cable TV and high-speed WiFi. Montreat offers beautiful hiking trails, a lake, gift shops, and snack bar. In the summer canoes and paddle boats can be rented and there is a free community barn dance with live music on Friday nights! Flat Creek, just across the road, has a lovely walking path beside it and is easily accessible for a pleasant walk, rock hopping, or place to cool your watermelons on a warm day! A lifelong family destination for our family's summer vacations, it has shown up in poems, songs, paintings, and many, many stories. We hope you will enjoy creating a few of your own here and will return often.

Summary: There was so much to learn in the history of this home! It sits right on the walking trail in Montreat with the creek across the road. The soothing sound of running water can be heard from the two porch/decks where we spent a lot of time. This charming cottage had us imagining what life was like there 100 years ago. Eight of us fit comfortably, though for a stay longer than 2 nights we would have needed more than one shower! The kitchen had everything we needed, too.

Summary: This trip brought my extended family together at Montreat for the first time since 2007. The location of the house was perfect; so very close to the Moore Center and right across from creek access. We could not keep our 11 year olds out of the water! The plumbing gave us some trouble at first but the host immediately responded and fixed it quickly. I'm certain it was an unusal issue, especially as no other reviewer mentions such an issue. So, no need to worry. Even if there is a problem, you will have an extremely responsive host.

Summary: This is our third year coming to Montreat over Memorial Day and our first time at this cabin. It was the perfect location with the short walk to the park. The side deck was roomy and the perfect gathering spot for us and our family friends who came by for a meal. When it rained, we just moved to the covered deck out front. It was so nice having sheets and towels provided along with a washer/dryer. Hosts were very generous with clean fluffy towels, paper products and kitchen supplies. We told our other Montreat veterans about this property and will definitely be coming back ourselves! Thank you for a lovely stay!

Summary: This house is adorable and comfortable. The building and furniture speak to its date back to the early 1900s but it somehow provides all you need. The fireplace worked great and there was wood a plenty to use. We parked 5 cars easily using the two parking areas. Close proximity to soo many great restautants so don’t buy too much food at the store 😁

Summary: We enjoyed our stay in this house! I went to Montreal as a child, and was glad to see that not a whole lot has changed, and my kids had a great time visiting as well! We were not completely aware of the lack of central heating until we arrived, that was partly our own fault. I am sure, but the host was very responsive and helped us with our issues.

Summary: Gracious host provided so many amenities down to the cinnamon shaker in the kitchen pantry! Even though the weather turned damp and chilly we were snug and cozy thanks to the dry firewood already inside and the numerous space heaters throughout. Perfect respite for us! Hope to return for a longer stay soon!
