Positive: Cozy lodge. Love the lounge area and jazz music options. Very unique and enjoyable. Private onsen was also very nice. Staff was terrific. And proximity to Keep th Haring museum is very good.

Negative: Two things I didn’t like. A very high fee if you wanted to bring your own wine to the lounge. Their wine selection is limited but bringing your own cost an additional 2,500 yen. Not nice. Our room had no place to store bags or clothes. So we couldn’t really unpack. Instead our travel bags were on the floor, messy and hard to use.

Positive: Lodge Atelier is a quirky little place in the forest, outside Fujimi. I cycled there as part of my bikepacking trip and I really had a nice experience with the staff and the service. The gentleman at the reception was super accommodating in finding ways to store my bike away from the rain. He also came and notified me when the onsen was available. The property is spotlessly clean and super welcoming. Oh, and they have a great collection of Jazz albums!

Negative: Nothing, really. If you are on public transport it’s not really convenient, but as I was my own vehicle that wasn’t an issue for me.

Summary: A lovely stay in the Japanese countryside.
