Elegant by design, Villa Surya is a secluded hideaway open all year round. Combining casual comfort with grace and simplicity it is where the ‘Real’ Bali can still be found. The villa is an oasis of tranquility on the Eastern Bali Coast with a spectacular view of holy Mt. Agung, emerald green paddy fields and deep azure oceans. Set back 200 meters from the ocean the beaches are only a short 2 minute walk away. The upper mezzanine is the ideal place to view all this splendour & also to have those intimate alfresco meals during the endless tropical nights.
The pool seating area surrounding the large 20 meter infinity swimming pool built of native Balinese green stone is placed in the middle of a freshwater plant and fish habitat, shaded by coconut, banana and fragrant frangipani trees. There is also a very romantic 13 meter swimming pool with mood lighting and a meditation island.
Our full time Balinese housekeeping staff will gently cater to your wishes starting with a complete breakfast which is included in the price & then throughout the day with an 'a la carte menu' which is not included in the price. The kitchen is not for private use for guests.

We put Villa Surya as close to the middle of this as possible, near the working village of Jasri where every morning the farmers pass by the villa on the way to their fields and every evening the local families come down to bath in the river - sometimes 4 and 5 to a motorbike but always happy to see you and eager to just chat about their lives and yours.

• Amlapura's authentic Balinese market is the center of local life and a source of tropical fruits and produce. Buy anything you fancy there and our staff will happily prepare it for you with flair and Balinese flavour.

Summary: Absolutely a perfect choice for me. I love the spot where it is situated. At sundown it is quiet and still. You are off the grid, well mostly, and it is heaven. The villa is furnished great, the beds extremely comfortable. The outdoor shower was awesome as was the tub. The pool was a slice of heaven. Mark and Petra were great checked in with us and helped us set up a few things. Khutut the cook was fantastic. Her food was fantastic and every meal we had was amazing. Khutut our driver was great. I could not imagine driving there. He he always made sure we were taken care of and that we were ok before staying with the car. When we went diving we left things with him and I did not worry for a second about the security. Aleck was great, the villa every day was cleaned. The pool was cleaned daily, beds taken care of just an amazing experience. I would do it again today if I could. Thank you Mark and Petra!!

Summary: We spent almost two months here with 2 kids ages 5 years and 9 months. And I want to thank again Mark, Petra and all their staff for an excellent holiday. The villa itself is very comfortable. Cleaned and beds changed every day. Ketut does a great job cooking not only local recipies but also european. You get fresh home baked bread every day and if something that you want is not on the menu it will be cooked for you if at all possible. Alit can take you on great fishing. Everybody is very friendly and helpful and any problem is solved with thier help. The location of the villa is somewhat removed activity centers, but there's a car with a driver that will take you anywhere. The weather in this location is very nice and the whole 2 months that we spent there I could walk in swimming trunks and nothing else and it felt very comfortable, not too hot, nice breeze from the ocean. Very good place for relaxing and doing nothing.

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Surya. Clocks tick slower there so it's the ideal place to stay away from it all. It is also ideal for families as the tropical garden has a lot to explore for children (fish ponds, plants, small beasts) and there is enough space for kids to run around. The pool of Villa Surya is large and spacious and can be used any time - unforgettable to swim at night with jungle sounds all around, enlighted by the stars of the southern hemisphere. Ketut is a great cook and prepared all meals freshly according to our wishes. Marc and Petra are very gentle hosts who did everything possible to make our stay memorable. They provide a friendly english speaking driver who drove us with Balines patience to any place we wanted to see and there are some points of interest nearby. The Villa itsself is proper and spacious, the bathrooms have openair showers. We can absolutely recommend the Villa Surya.

Summary: Amazing peaceful location aside the main crowded touristic places. We would prefer not to say that in order to keep it for us, but we have to admit this has been our best travel experience so far. Kindness and devotion from the staff. Calm and relaxing environment, with possibilities to visit all key Bali places, as well as discovering the local culture (wedding, temple ceremonies). Simply amazing, already planned to come back to Villa Surya.

Summary: We had some reservations about staying at Villa Surya. Not because the villa isn’t beautiful. No - it is special. The rooms and facilities are exceptional, and we especially loved the pool, the outdoor showers and the rooftop terrace. All set in beautifully maintained and secure gardens. Not because of the location. No - this villa is wonderfully situated overlooking the rice paddies to the ocean beyond. Far enough away from the traffic mayhem of Denpasar to ensure a more peaceful environment, yet close to many of the main attractions in eastern Bali. Not because the food is average. Absolutely not - Ketut served up beautiful dishes each evening from a varied menu. And she was ever willing to prepare breakfast at whatever time required as we set off to explore the island’s attractions. Not because the pool was small or substandard. No - this is a monster pool for a holiday rental. And surrounded by other pools with fish swimming alongside. Beautiful! Our reservations centred around whether we could cope with other people being constantly around the villa while we were in residence. But this is Bali. Things are different here. And maybe more so at Villa Surya than some other properties. Mark and Petra Stahly have something special here. Somehow they have created a ‘family’ from their staff and other contacts. You are welcomed into that family as soon as you arrive, and for however long you stay. Any reservations quickly disappear as you realise that these people are here to ensure your holiday is whatever you want it to be. And no-one is standing watching your every move, or invading your private space. The level of contact is set to your preference. If you want to be left alone, then you are left alone. If you want to sit and resolve the world’s problems, then you can do that as well. Someone else has said that the owners are an asset to the villa, and that is so true. Two contrasting personalities, they combine to work wonderfully well for their guests. And they are both genuinely likeable people. You could make arrangements for the various trips and activities yourself, but these were made for us without any fuss or drama. Made the driver was ever punctual and must surely be one of the most patient and safest drivers on the island. What was the main highlight of our trip to Bali? Our answer has to be ‘the people’. So thank you to Mark and Petra, Ketut, Alit, Kadek, Iluh and Made for providing some special memories on a wonderful trip.

Summary: We are a family of 5 (3 kids age 17,15 and 9) and loved our stay in the villa (stayed for one week)! The house is beautifully located between the rice fields and you can take nice walks with great views of the ocean and country life. The staff was very friendly and so are the owners. There is a lot to do and see in the area and we are very happy to get a real picture of Bali and Balinese life. Also because the house is in the middle of it. People working on the fields, washing in the river and the sound of roosters every morning. Started our day with a swim in the pool and a good breakfast. What a nice holiday life! One of the highlights was our tour to Amed. The snorkeling was much better than we expected and the tour by the coast was a great picture opportunity. White Sand Beach was also very nice. We ended there almost every day. Good bodysurfing, nice beach and affordable food and beachbeds. Even saw a turtle there! The house was great to come back to! Very relaxing, good beds and showers, nicely decorated with a beautiful pool and garden. So yes, we can absolutely recommend the villa and eastern Bali. Thanks Mark, Petra and staff!

Summary: I would recommend Villa Surya to anyone, particularly those with a bit more time on their hands (i.e., more than a weekend) and a desire for more than the resort beaches of Kuta and Sanur have to offer. The villa itself is gorgeous - two inviting pools set in a garden environment conceived and maintained with great care. The two suites, the poolside (ground floor) and mezzanine (upstairs) are both large, with comfortable beds, beautifully appointed bathrooms and plenty of living area. There is also a large living and dining area and kitchen under the mezzanine suite. The property is clean, and the website did not fully do justice to the setting and the view of rice paddies extending to the sea, to the beauty of sitting by the pool and watching the sun rise. More importantly, the web cannot truly convey the friendly welcome and homey atmosphere of Villa Surya. Mark and Petra - the owners - live nearby and are very helpful in suggesting activities to make the most of what eastern Bali has to offer. Our two kids - age 4 and 2 - fell in love with Mark and Petra and with the villa staff (who are extremely friendly and welcoming), and had so much fun exploring the grounds and learning about local plants, animals and customs. Villa Surya is located in a quiet, village setting, away from the congested resort communities of the southern part of the island. However, it is still just a 10-minute drive to a modern supermarket, 15 minutes to the restaurants of Candi Dasa. And eastern Bali has a wide variety of great activities on offer - from trekking and white water rafting to swimming, surfing and diving. Staying at Villa Surya, we could pack out days with fun, and then retreat to a relaxed and welcoming home environment. Perfect!
