Positive: Gorgeous traditional cottage with original features and modern fixtures and fittings. En suite double bedroom full of character, and 3 single beds with a second bathroom on the top floor in the loft. Loved watching the swallows and house martins fly close to the windows. Fantastic location in central Domme, a beautiful old bastide town in the Dordogne. Really friendly owners who live next door. Very clean. Everything you need for self catering. Free parking available with the resident permit (provided) in a number of nearby car parks. Lots to do nearby.
Negative: We really loved it, despite the heat wave which meant the top floor was extremely hot at night! Fans provided to help, and if you follow Cathy's advice to keep windows and curtains closed in the day the old stone keeps the house an acceptable temperature.
Summary: Gorgeous cottage, full of character and charm in a wonderful location.

Positive: It is a lovely house in a gorgeous town with a garden for our dog. The hosts are really nice and friendly.
Negative: The garden has some building equipment in it which wasn’t a problem for us as the dog loved having a garden but it is worth being aware of ahead of booking.

Positive: After looking into many towns in the area and other accommodations in Domme, we made an excellent choice in booking Maison de la Ruelle. It was everything we could have desired: a charming, comfortable home in a perfect location at the heart of the well-preserved bastide, steps from the market square, shops, restaurants, Grotte de Domme, and a gorgeous view of the Dordogne River and valley. Cathy was a lovely host: generous, helpful, flexible, responsive to our special requests, and indulgent of our halting French. The old stone house has been tastefully renovated to incorporate major creature comforts while preserving the feel of the past. Casement windows overlook the private terrace and the surrounding landscape of red tile roofs, fields, and wooded hills. In the early morning you can watch the mist rising and hear roosters crowing in the distance. We were there in late May; we noticed small influxes of tourists during the day (the town must become an absolute zoo in summer), but they were gone by the end of the afternoon, leaving the cobblestone streets quiet and inviting for evening strolls. Recommend les Délices de la Noix for breakfast, lunch, coffee, and snacks; l’Esplanade for dinner (excellent in its own right; the gorgeous view and warm reception by the attentive hostess take it to the next level). Our favorite day trip was a leisurely paddle down the Dordogne River, booked with Canöes Loisirs.

Positive: It was a cold March day when we arrived. The pellet stove was lit and the heating on in the bedroom on. It was a lovely to arrive in a pre-warmed warm accommodation. The owners gave us all the relevant information about the heating system which was really simple. They also gave clear information about how to reach them if there were any problems. The accommodation was an old property recently renovated to a very high standard but keeping the old features. There was everything there that we needed for cooking. Towels and bedding were included as well as dish cloths, tea towels etc. The beds were very comfortable with extra bedding if it got very cold. The location was on an old street of terraced properties near to the the centre. It was very quiet with nice views over the countryside. The whole property was very clean and it had a nice courtyard garden area with a table etc.
Negative: The second bedroom was on the second floor and was a partial messanine and didn’t have a door. We had no problems with noise from it though. We were there in March and non of the restaurants were open in the evenings. Many of the shops were closed too. This was to be expected out of season. However there was a very well stocked Carrefour super market. It was exceptionally clean and had very good produce. Also a very good boulangerie and pharmacy nearby.
Summary: A lovely renovated characterful property in a quiet part of a beautiful town and near to the centre.
